Ok, found a great spot to go fishing. Problem is, it is remote and you have to lock it in 4x4 Lo just to get to the spot. No way can I get a trailer in there.

Anyone have any suggestions for a boat I can put on the roof? Canoes are out of the question, and it would need to be capable of 2 adults and 2 children. I am thinking jon boat, but the last time I picked up one of those, it was too heavy for me to get on my roof.

Don't think an inflatable will work. Lots of rocks and shallow water. I am thinking of looking for the lightest jon boat I can find.

Prolly the route to go, just gonna need to have help or rig up some pulleys at your house to help load it...

Actually, I'm not sure if there will be many options for what you are looking for, 1 boat, 4 people and you can still get it on your roof.

4 yrs ago I bought a 15ft inflatable tandem kayak for myself and 2 kids. Problem was the kids kept growing and I ended up having to buy another 10ft kayak 2 yrs later. The kayaks can be a pain to setup sometimes, but can be carried on the rack inflated or collapsed and carried in back. They've been very durable so far.

as a kid my dad would just throw an old alumacraft on top of his series rig and off we went. If you're not anal about scratching your rack one person could easily lean one against the back and slide it on up.

I rode a normal roof-top cargo hauler down moderate rapids once. After that, I modified it a bit for balance with some sticks and old fuel cans and used it as a small boat for certain crossings. It worked well.

I've made several boats out of junk I found. Everything from inner tubes stuffed in ladder rungs to chopped up barrels. None of them were good, but they all got me where I needed to go.

Given the success of my cargo hauler boat, I suspect that StorNboat is likely a decent little toy. It's an expensive little fucker, though.

...I've always wanted a real boat.

Cheers,

Kennith

I was given a 12ft aluminum boat with no motor. I plan on mounting it on the trailer for travel, and put on top of the rover's rack for transportation to the lake. Still looking into the motor part. I may just keep it a row boat for all the hassle with another battery and motor storage. (lakes I'm likely to be on have a ban on gas motors).
