Hello all. I just got a 2003 discovery 2 , it doesn't run I got it cheap. It has 147k miles on it. Spark plugs have fire , I accessed the fuel pump. Am I supposed to hear it running with key on. Because it is not making a sound , and help appreciated

Shot in the dark: Crank position sensor. According to Stew, the pump doesn't run until it receives a signal from the rotating flywheel.

How cheap is cheap?

step one, reset the fuel cutoff thingy under the hood (fuel relay, inertia switch). I believe it shuts off the fuel if there is an impact or something.

Yeah, doublecheck that inertia switch. Do you know where it's located? Are the hazards blinking at all? You can also verify fuel pressure at the rail if you have a gauge. I'm not sure about the relationship between the CkPS and spark, but that sounds plausible.

Hazards work. Everything works. Just won't start

You don't know how happy you just made me. It WAS worth me making an ass of myself if I was able to help everyone understand that one important fact. The service info is wrong in this case.
It's true you should hear the pump run after it sees a crank signal. If you have spark your crank sensor is good.
So now check for power and ground at the pump while someone cranks it for you

You have spark, you have fuel, and you have compression. If all those are true, your engine should run. You need to double-check your checks.

If you do in fact have spark, compression, and fuel psi then I think the next thing to check is battery voltage at the injectors and if you have that then make sure you get a pulsing ground while it's cranking. That's the only thing left.

pull the rave out and find the fuel pump ground wire the BCU grounds out, i have seen the security "relay" in the bcu fail and cause nostart. simply grounding it out fixes it.
