Hi I have a 2000 d2 and I am doing a power steering pump replacement and found out that when I had the heads done 2 years ago somehow the mechanic pinched the crank postion wire (black wire, with a shielded wire in the middle) behind the power steering bracket and now when I am doing the power steering pump, i see that it is flattened out and broken, only the flex loom is holding it all together, the wires are ripped apart. My queation is do I need to use a shielded wire like what was there, or can I splice in a piece of 2 wire and just match center to center and outer to outer? Thanks in advance.

thanks, i am gonna try and work on it more tonight if I can since it will be a whooping 12 degrees when I get home. The wire I am talking about goes down the front of the motor under the power steering bracket then back towards the drivers side firewall, and goes to the crank postion sensor I changed it a while back when it would crank and not start.
