I've tracked my cruise contol problem down to the buttons on the steering wheel. I did a search and came up with the same issue of vacuum hose issues and switch under dash. But no one seems to have had problems with the steering wheel buttons going bad. Anybody have a idea as to what's involved in fixing or replacing.
The buttons will activate the cruise but not without an extrodinary amount of pressure on the set button. The resume button works fine.

you dont have to discoonect the airbag but if you dont it will get in the way. what i did was disconnect the battery for a few hours, before attempting. leave disconnected until completely back together. I had no real problems, just 2 screws to the airbag, and a couple for the switch not a big deal. unfortunately for me though it didnt fix my problem. oh well, best of luck to you.

When my switch went bad, I swapped the wires from the Set button to the contacts of the Resume button.

Ultimate Cheap Bastard solution, although I do run into problems in other folk's trucks. Gppd thing my Disco doesn't get driven on the street much.

When I need to pull an airbag, I disconnect the battery and hook both leads together and proceed to remove/install the bags. So far, none have deployed.
