New Law Allows Employees to Bring Guns to Work

"On June 17 Gov. Rick Perry signed SB 321, which provides that a private or public employer may not prohibit an employee from storing a firearm or ammunition in a locked, privately owned motor vehicle in a parking lot, garage or other parking area provided by the employer.

The law goes into effect Sept. 1. To store a firearm in his or her vehicle, the employee must hold a concealed handgun license (CHL) or otherwise lawfully possess a firearm. There are exceptions that provide for the prohibition of firearms on school premises, secured areas of airports and chemical, oil and gas manufacturing facilities.

Employers are allowed to prohibit an employee from possessing a firearm in an employer-owned or leased vehicle used by the employee in the course and scope of the employee's employment. Employers may continue to prohibit employees from possessing firearms in the employers' buildings."

I'm not sure how I feel about Perry running for President, despite his arrogance. But I do respect his stance in allowing Texans use their firearms. I carried a gun in my console anyway, I guess now it's legal.

WTF would make an employer think they have any right to dictate what I can or can't keep in my car?

Unless I've broken some kind of law, nobody should have any business searching my personal vehicle nor should they be able to prohibit me from legally storing something (like a gun) in it...

Like I said, it's good to see someone protecting our rights, but sad that it was even necessary to waste the government's resources enacting it.

This is a pretty reasonable law. It's limited to parking areas, in locked privately owned vehicles. I think a lot of people would've signed this bill.

Don't let this fool you into thinking he's somehow a reasonable level-headed individual. The man has some really REALLY nutty beliefs. Just google "New Apostolic Reformation"...

I'd rather see a government taking action to affirm our rights as opposed to taking them away.

X2, it shouldn't have even been an issue.

That said, every one of my employers in the past had horrible anti-gun policies. They each claimed a right to search one's vehicle and person is deemed necessary. I'm lgad I was one who got to determine if it was necessary:D

Well, where I work, I have to go through a gated fence-line, and I'm subject to search going in and out. Of course a few tens of thousands could die with just the right explosion and wind direction, so I guess they have a reason.

I'll be looking to see if the NO FIREARMS signs change.

Despite the heat, humidity and bugs, there are many things to like about Texas.:patriot:

This is what I like about owning my own business. I have a gun safe in my office full of guns and ammo and I bring my pitbull to the office every day. If someone doesn't like it? Too fucking bad.

Hmmm, all my coworkers bring guns to work with them every single day. Not only is it encouraged, it is required.

I'd be extra careful where you are. You might run into Snookie or the Retard, I mean the Stupidation, I mean the Situation. You could die laughing.
