The worst thing is all of these signs create a white noise situation and then we tend to tune all of them out. We have a 2 mile stretch of road in my little town that must have 15 signs per hundred yards. Nobody pays any attention to any of them.

On 59th ave between Greenway and Acoma (a half mile) they decided to put medians and a crosswalk for The Thunderbird Grad school. This road was just wide enough for two lanes each way and a center lane before the construction. So on one side of the road they had 5-6 apartment complexes with 2 entrances each, plus a strip mall, 7-11 and a pizza place. The other side was the grad school. No entrances, but pedestrian traffic. Each break in the median needed a keep left sign (and yellow/black warning sign). The crosswalk got two warning signs on each side of the road. Then they put up always flashing over-road lights with attached sign. Plus 'sponsored by' signs, speed limits, no parking, etc.

So in a 1/2 mile stretch of road, there was over 60 road signs. So much overload that people were getting hit in the crosswalk because no one was paying attention. They finally removed the crosswalk and associated signs. The road keeps getting put up to remove the medians, but lack of money kills it off every year. :banghead:

Saw these on the way home, and couldn't believe it!

Why on earth would people need to be TOLD where to go? Really??

To me, this is a waste of city funds.

PLUS, now that there's a "Tsunami zone," does that mean higher insurance premium?

Somebody help me understand!!!!

Shouldn't the sign say "TIDAL WAVE" in the U.S.?

Worst sign I ever saw was in the Sierras. I'm out driving around looking for a place to hunt and I see a sign that reads "Quiet Please Do Not Disturb Mating Mountain Lions". Never seen anything more idiotic in my life.

They don't need Tsunami signs in the Bay Area....last time they had a warning I remember the news commenting that lots of people went to the beach to see the Tsunami. Better known as natural selection in progress.

We have a house in Rhode Island on the water and all throughout the neighborhoods there are "Emergency Evacuation Route" signs with arrows.

The police department also has an amphibious armored personnel carrier that they enjoy driving down the highway. Since it only goes 15mph it requires a 4 police car escort. Great use of money there.

They need those signs so that if visitors are there and are not familiar with the area they can safely evacuate. However, I think I would just follow the large crowd of people hauling ass out of there.

This reminds me of a Brian Regan act, "Blasting zone ahead... Shouldn't that read 'Road Closed'"

Silly boy, a speed hump is taller and wider than a speed bump. :)

Speed humps can be driven over at a greater speed than a speed bump. Mostly used for traffic calming and route avoidance. Speed bumps are more of a parking lot thing.

Wrong, Katrina already proved without those signs the locals will just gather on bridges and wonder why nobody will rescue or feed them.:banghead:

imagine if they put evac. route signs everywhere coastal in the US? i'd love to see the price tag on that.

we shouldn't use those things anyway. if shit hits the fan, darwin will lead you down the right path.

We have emergency snow route signs, these are the roads you are supposed to use. We are south of KC and considered rural so in the event of a bit of snow, they are suppose to plow these routes only, it would help if they actually did.

In New Hampshire were too cheep to even put up road signs. Its navigate by land marks around here.

I guess in Kalifornia and Ore if a Tsunami coming you may need directions on how to drive away from the coast? Go East maybe, just a thought...

Question: Are there Starbucks strategically located along the evacuation routes? It would be sad if anybody was inconvenience while evacuating a natural disaster....

LOL what fools

The best signs I ever saw were on the interstate in Ohio if I remember correctly. They said something like "Don't Get Plowed!" and had a pic of a snow plow. But hilarious.

Those signs are usually near the coast where people come up in small boats from Mexico and run across the interstate. I remember seeing them near San Diego where I-5? runs next to the Pacific.

Those Tsunami signs are a joke in LA. You can't go anywhere fast on a regular day. I doubt that word of a huge wave coming into Zuma beach is going to make traffic move fast in the time needed to escape your final bath in raw sewage thanks to signage :applause:
