none of your fucking business
Great report, I really liked the format...

If I was to offer any real critique is to put captions as to what each photo was about.

I know, opinions are like assholes...but, I know I couldn't have done it any better.

Very encouraging...as I don't leave the driveway without spares, coolant, oil, and basic tools.

No, that's fair. I also found that Word 2007 leaves a wide trail of typos when saving the output as PDF. The most glaring one is replacement of a person's last name with five stars, but there are many more.
I need to see if PDF allows HTML-style "Alt = " declarations, so the description pops up when you move the mouse cursor over the object.

Thanks. Kennith inspired me.

I think we need to do an epic trip of California. Mr.Newsom, are you game for a movie (to shoot)?

Driving to work and back in California is an epic trip every day.

Thanks for sharing, enjoyed your write up and the photos. Especially the comparisons to the Ca Trails.

Never made this years NR from Ca after my viscous coupling seized in Mojave the week before.:(
LOL, IIRC, the only comparison was between SOB Hill and Holcomb Creek as being in the same league; the first is graded 8 out of 10 in Colorado, the second was driven at night as part of Inland Empire 4-Wheelers as a "beginners' run."
Neither is a fair assessment, but it gives some funny prospective.

Funny prospective, from my perspective...:)

As I first ran Heart Attack Hill many years ago I have frequently used the "well its not as treacherous as heart attack hill " to reassure myself before a particularly steep and loose descent. Red Cone was one of my trail choices, I ran Wheeler Lake at the Leadville NR and just ran Holcomb Creek a couple of weeks ago.

I still have a deep animosity towards 2N17X...

That right there is a perfect example how pictures do NOT tell the whole story. I bet that is a great spot but I just can't tell from the picture perspective. I need to get out West a hit some real trails soon. Appalachia is great in many respects but those views.... oh those views. That's some good story telling sir.

Thanks

*note to self- Go West :applause:

The guys in SoCal who have driven on this trail know the spot well. Here's how it looked from the top; the engine stalled on the last ledge, and I flew backwards into the manzanitas without brakes or steering. A multiple backflip is very possible - and happened to a few in this spot. The ledge near the top is steeper than Heart Attack Hill (although this section is very short).

Looks like a good time out there. Who's getting winched up?

Can't wait to explore out there...

Peter, thanks for the fantastic pics and writeup! I'm game for an epic trip here in our backyard... been itching to get out there again, and I'm down to shoot a movie of it, too.

I'm headed up towards LaLa land to try and get some shots of Elias' race truck this weekend, and plan to accompany the race effort in Mexico - beyond that, and a tentative plan for a trip to Alaska next summer, I've got nothing on the books!

Edit: Funny you stopped in Hurricane UT, the Father in Law lives in St. George right nearby!

I know it well, but.....
I thought it was a fire road and not a firebreak, and the hillclimb was suppossed to have a easy bypass route. This was 10 years ago when i first ran this trail thinking it was a low key easy scenic trail similar to Pilot Rock.

The gate keeper required a couple of tries, and the hillclimb had a bunch of Jeeps kicking up clouds of dust. I walked the hill and was greated with "so you going to try this in your Toyota ?"

Fortunately I made it up first attempt;) much to the chagrin of the assembled Jeep crowd who had a suspect been waiting for me to make an arse of myself. The longer wheelbase made that last ledge a lot less dramatic.

I did like the trail fix for the vibrating prop shaft, Jubilee clips / hose clamps seem a better idea than when I duct taped a center punch to my front prop shaft after clouting it on a rock and still having to drive 1000 miles home.
