There is a better option. The Rover is powered by a Rover v8, I know big surprise there. The big deal is that so was 3/4 of anything and everything British a few years back. You can get a TVR or Jag engine with at least 100 extra ponies and it probably won't even blow up. Sure it will cost a few extra pennies, but you would need an engine rebuild every other day if you ran NOS in a stock Disco mill.

Or if you have ots of extra cash try a Mercedes Benz 5.5 liter supercharged V8, or a Porcshe engine, either one would work.

NOS! You can't be serious dude. A bit more power on the open road when you're loaded to the hilt with overlanding gear would be great, but off road I have more than ample power to do any hill climb.
Just get yourself a sticker like mine:
"YOU MAY BE FASTER THAN ME, BUT I CAN GO ANYWHERE":flipoff4:

Screw NOS, their quality went in the toilet years ago... Nitrous Express and Edelbrock have better systems these days.

I'd rather put on about 5-7lbs of boost from a turbo or SC... a lot more money, but it would be cool to hear a Dico spooling up.

I do have a deisel coming but I was looking for a way for quick easy power

If I dont have to give up the old motor for the deisel I WILL put a 50 shot in it just to see what happens

why would you want to use NOS, I mean shit, my 04 cranks out 217hp and that does not include the acetone. What do you want next, Banks twin super charger from a diesel are something. :D

What about real engine upgrades like cams, rockers, valves, pistons, etc? With these you get more power all the time, not just when you push a little button. Plus you don't have a stupid bottle taking up your personal space. Supers and turbos are also acceptable. To me nitros just shows that people are lazy, and it's like cheating. NOS equipped cars are the Barry Bonds of automobiles. :p

Nitrous requires more than just a bottle and jet to work properly too. Those kits with nothing but a switch and a solenoid are garbage. Luckily, the people who don't know how to use it or go cheap get blown up fairly quickly- kinda like a Darwin thing.
I've used it a lot over the years and never had a problem, so it CAN be done. It's just not a quick OR cheap fix if done right.

syoung,
I've installed lots of kits and i am aware of the cost compaired to building a motor it is cheap and thank you for being the only one who understands that it can be done and can be done without issues

You are planning to climb a steep, slippery slope, right?

You expect to run out of power halfway up, right?

Now. Visualize this situation. A big, heavy Discovery is precariously perched on a steep, muddy incline, you find yourself in the wrong gear for this part of the climb (the only way you could possibly run out of power). It's a good distance back down, say, 45 feet.

You decide to "push button for power", and a good (should you not break anything) 50 HP is pulled out of the Disco's ass and shot to the wheels.

What happens?

Nitrous isn't a good solution for the sort of off roading Land Rovers routinely encounter. The long, slow, steady onset of power you need and a reasonably sized bottle of nitrous oxide are mutually exclusive. Consider a twin turbo setup, or a small centrifugal supercharger.

Cheers,

yes a wet NOS system would live just fine on a rover motor...no doubt

but why?

offroad I have never felt underpowered in my D1, on the road even a 100hp system and it will still be slow

so I have to say its a waste of money plain and simple.

but if all your gonna do is blast straight mud bogs...get some big meats and have at it:D

I think a little Nitrous would have taken through, I mean over, that long stretch of river where you did the back stroke out the drivers window.

Your driving style + Nitrous = Me wanting to see the test-run!

Got a diesel on the way huh, let’’s go for it!

If the engine doesn’t let loose, you have got plenty more grenade issues to be concerned about, but enough of that chicken little crap.

DO IT and call us so we all can watch and once again shake our heads at the stuff we dare not do.

I'm not saying it's not possible, mind you. I'm just saying it won't provide a useful benefit for SENSIBLE off road driving. It's a good way to roll a Discovery, though.

Even if it doesn't tear up your engine... You probably have at least 33's on your truck, maybe even lockers. What happens to your axles gears and cv's when you instantly kick an additional 100 hp down and you are already under stress (i.e. halfway up a hill or through a sticky bog)
