Not a good Rangie day

Bung in the top radiator hose blew out going up a hill.

Fighting a lean running condition and truck just back from shop so listening for ping and watching temp gauge closely while going up the hill.

Low coolant light came on and temp gauge started to climb so pulled over immediately and turned off the engine.

As one can imagine steam everywhere and the pressure behind the bung dented the under hood insulation which thankfully still in place or hood for sure dented.

What really pissed me off is just replaced hose and had less than 1,000 miles on it.

That's a bummer! Glad you caught it in time.
What is that sensor? '88 3.5 does not have that.

That is the aux fan switch and is only found on LWBs or trucks that have been in my shop and had that used as either a warning light switch of worst-case aux fan over-ride switch.

As for the hose, I've had more Genyouwine Land Rover hoses fail than aftermarkets. I've had many state that the cheap aftermarket hoses with the palstic tees and hose clamps are junk but I've had pretty good luck with them-although I do wish the IDs more closely matched the trucks/radiators. But, once they're in place, they've served me pretty well and better than the genuine article.

The genuine was replaced after five years and many stressful trips in the Alps after getting a pin hole on the way back from ME to PA.

Was able to make it home no problem with duct tape.

In my mind this is a pretty bad failure and guessing a bad batch from the supplier to the vendor.

Never had this before with other genuine hoses on this engine with many hard miles.

Not only is the engine compartment trashed, all the coolant is in the nooks and crannies of the engine.

Just glad caught it before it over heated.
