Hmm.. if you don't mine me asking... who do you work for? Some folks I've done some work with in the past at Sabic Innovative Plastics (formerly GE Plastics) just got laid off. These were all folks at the PPDC/HQ in Pittsfield, MA.

I'd rather not saw out loud, but we are the 2nd largest chemical company in the world (behind BASF only because of the $/Euro exchange), and based in Midland, MI.

Google Midland, MI and chemical and see what you find.

I worked with some folks at GE on developing flexible solid state lighting (read: wall paper that lights up, either as lighting or display (TV)). Unfortunately, the light emitting polymer work was too cool for my company, and the sold it (it wasn't going to make enough $ fast enough:rolleyes: - it'll be a multi-billion $ industry in 10 years)

Yeah but that taste you get in your mouth when you get that crap on your skin is horrible and the smell is nauseatingkly sweet.

I have used it on my horses and it works, but I would hate to put it on me.

x2

DMSO is nasty. I've gotten a couple of drops on my hand in the past and 10 minutes later, I'm wondering when I ate that crap sandwich.:ack:

cool. i know who it is now. :)

several yrs back, philips in the netherlands developed something called photonic textiles which i looked into, but it wasn't ready for prime time, and still in very early development. has anyone gone forward with manufacturing the ss polymer lights?
feel free to PM me if so, because i'm always looking to integrate new & cool technology into my end products. :)

The sculpture is called "PHAROS" named after the lighthouse in Alexandria. The handing part resembles the Fresnel lense of a lighthouse. Probably symbolic of Booz-Allen "guiding the way" for their clients.

I didn't really see any of that. To me it looked like a circle with some shit hanging off of it.

Did someone tell you what it was or is that your view? I am not up on my "art" so I really don't see "it".

We were working with Philips for a while, but I don't think they used our stuff in the photonic textiles.

Last year GE announced that they have developed their roll-to-roll printing technology to lab scale: http://www.grcblog.com/?p=247

I'd say you are looking at 5-10 years before polymer light emitting diodes (pLEDs) are commercialized.

You'll see displays a lot sooner than than, however. Sony developed an 11" TV using small molecule organics (OLEDs) instead of polymers. A bit pricy at $2500, but the picture is better than any LCD or plasma, and the screen is only 3mm thick. The pLEDs will be cheaper to manufacture in the long run (printing (ink jet, roll-to-roll) vs vacuum deposition).

Here's the world's smallest TV made using the polymer that I discovered/developed. They use a white polymer on the pixels, then filter out the various colors to get the sub-pixels (red, green, blue).

Well kids,

I just found out that my dept has until May 1st to find a new place of employment. About 35 people in my dept and numerous others will be terminated either today or by May.

I do get a great package, and harbor no ill will, and now look forward to spending the next few months pursuing a new career. In a perfect scenario, I'll have a new job by May and will get the biggest bonus of my life for getting canned.

It has been a rough one here today though, Pfizer just cut 150 jobs in STL, and now they plan to cut as many as 2400 sales positions across the country. Go big Pharma!
