Ok - so 01 Disco 200k, death wobble after hitting road irregularties. Not super bad, a tap on the brakes usually settles everything and usually does not do it on it's own on a smooth surface, just pot holes and stuff set it off at speed, usually about 35 or so. All stock, no hard core off roading, all parts never replaced.

So TRE first? Boots are dry rot on all 4 ends but rods seem pretty tight still.

Shocks around 100k.

Have read many posts on DW - never found a definitive - that fixed it thread just lots of parts repalcing...

Start with TRE's first then go from there?

Thoughts?

At 100k I redid the front end...it was cooked. Solved the issues...then again at 200k. Runs true and straight....no front end vibrations.

OK - thanks, care to elaborate on the "redid"?

Don't forget to check the bushings. Especially the ones on your Panhard rod. They take a lot of abuse and should probably be replaced.

x2 on different axle. I replaced any and every bushing and bearing (shy of rebuilding the axle its self). Then new shocks, and removed the mud collected from the last 10+ years. It stopped the "death wobble".Found most bushings well worn. I just figured it was time. Might have gone a bit over board, but I know its all good.

Just to follow up on this for folks that have/had the same issue. For me I am at 201k now and the TRE's were just plain worn out. I replace all TRE's, panhard rod, drag link and steering stabilizer with all OEM parts.

The difference is night in day in steering feel and response. No wobble at all anymore plus the truck tracks like it should and no shimmy over bumps etc.

Well worth the money. Followed that by a set of Khumo Road Ventures (excellent tire for the $) and some new pads and I am ready for the next 200k.

Don't forget the simple tire balancing. I had this and replaced the font end components which helped a lot but the main driver for the wobbles on my '04 turned out to be out of balance tires that were going bad. they were close to needing replacement anyway. New shoes and "0" wobbles.

I just redid my panhard bar bushings and that fixed the sloppy front end and death wobble. I had about 1/8in for play in both ends of the bar. After I replace the bushing the wobble was gone the the delay in streeing response was gone.

Guess?

How about tearing it apart and finding out what's worn out?

I had a picture sent to me last week of a BROKEN lower swivel pin

it's easier to guess than to tear it apart:rofl:

gotta dig in there soon, though.
