Gotta love the irony of the oil pressure switch being the cause of the oil leak I just found. That which is supposed to warn me is pissing oil from its vent hole.

Fuck that!

Hey P(ootie) T(ang) Schram - get that oil pressure gauge setup ready for me to ship out asap please. That's the T to replace the (designed by a jackass) OEM OPS with its BSFR thread (British Super Fucking Rare) and then the new npt fitting for the new OPS. Is the T 1/8" or 1/4" out to the line?

I'll buy the Gauge and line myself unless you have a VDO or Auto Meter setup sitting around.

Can you tell I'm pissed? :banghead:

We had the same problem on our '99 D2, oil pressure switch leaked up past the blade terminal. New switch cured it, but not the sort of thing you want to go at speed! The later switch with the moulded (molded) 2-pin connector is supposed to cure that issue, but I think it may be a slightly different fitting.

We've got a new front cover/oil pump to fit this summer, that has the new type switch already fitted.

LOL, it only lasted what, 17 years?

The one on my DI failed in 2001.

Lol. Good point. Although, it might have already been replaced once. On my 96, it was leaking and when I replaced it, it was already the "improved" version.

There was a TSB on these switches leaking. Usually just the D1 and RRC, but some of the early 99 D2 had the same style switch too.

Our D2 was built in November 1998, so the front covers were still coming in with the D1 switch. Apart from the CKP sensor housing, I believe that the basic engines were the same for the D1 and D2, obviously excepting injection gear etc etc.

There is an astounding variety of oil pressure switches used by Land Rover. Some were 1/8 BSP, some were #5 SAE, some were a metric thread.

My 99 d2 had one. it was spraying oil out and the light didnt come on... replaced it with a spare older one from a D1 or something and it has been fine for a long time now.

I would run a manual gauge and just ground out the wires or whatever so you dont always get the light, that way you can see the actual pressure (if you want to, im convinced that some of these things are at 5psi all the time but run forever like that)

Oh, and you can tap a NTP tap into a BSPT and open it up without an issue, ive done it a bunch of times on maitas which ironically have 1/8 BSPT. just run the 1/8NTP into it and it works fine. IIRC its the same thread pitch/count, just narrower.

The thread pitch is different by one TPI, the thread angle of the BPS is 55', whereas the thread angle of the NPT is 60'. I have a supplier that sells me 27-1/2 TPI, 57.5' included thread angle.
