I have a oil pump failure and caught it just in time. Have not taken the engine apart.
We think the engine is ok but who really knows. No oil pressure with a gauge from Land rover. Anybody had any luck with changing just the oil pump ?

If you put a new front cover and oil pump on you could have the same problem because the dowel pins are misaligned from the factory. I have wondered if you could just remove the dowel pins all together and just use the bolts to align it.

I thought that was what the TSB said to do?

FWIW-I've seen this happen outside the VIN range of where they were supposed to occur.

If you could just realign the dowel pins then I (crossing fingers) would think LR would have already done that to the affected motor's. Anyone try this with good results, post up the results. I just got a new trail rig and am looking to get a daily driver D2. This would really be nice seeing the low ass pricing on the 03's in my area of the states.

I don't know, I haven't seen that bulletin in a while. Actually I think Land Rover may have removed it from GTR, like they usually do with bulletins that are actually usefull:banghead: .

I've seen it happen outside of the VIN range as well. So all of you 4.6 DII owners beware

my "new" '04 is getting a 2000 4.6 motor right now, no dowel alignment issues for me!

The bulletin was for engine replacment only there was no modifications to the blocks...land rover wanted them back if the engine was replaced for warranty repair..........out of vin failures are a good chance as well.....IMO....removing dowels and lining up with bolts should work but have not tried it though......i have had a few that the oil pump sun gear broke and the rest was reuseable though.

I would think that without the dowel pins the front cover gasket will fail.

there is alot of force generated pumping thick cold fluid...think hydraulic pump.

I have heard of MANY folks doing so and it alleviated oil-flow related noise problems.

I think the clamping force is generated by the screws, not the dowels.

So is there engines still running and after hoe many miles tks
