The vibe I'm getting here is that, if he knew you, and liked you, he was a good dude who would go out of his way to help you. If he didn't know you, and you rubbed him the wrong way, he'd say things to you one human shouldn't say to another. I guess the internet does have that affect on people.
I think we're getting an idea of which side of this equation you were on.

I guess I am one of the old timers, i think. Does being one of the original founders of this site count? I'm still around from time to time, but rarely post anymore since I was transferred to Canada back in 2015. The original plan was to bring the Disco up here to Quebec, but it turned out to be too complicated to export/import a modified Rover. So it sadly had to be sold. I believe it is somewhere in Texas now.

I haven't picked up another Rover up here, I ended up getting a motorcycle license and a bike instead. The instructors mostly spoke french, but it's not that complicated if you already know how to drive a stick shift.

I would say you are one of the old timers. But I always think you’re trolling me when you say your wife had a great Freelander. Or I moved north, sold my Rovers and got a Motorcycle.
Always good to find out you guys are still breathing.

My Wife's Freelander wasn't that special, it went through the mandatory 30k transmission replacement, too. My independent mechanic at the time who specialized in Land Rovers and other European cars did some research and put in a transmission that had some kind of upgrade done to it, and we didn't have any issues after that. It got sold in 2015, too.

You bring up a point. Maybe John wasn't stupid, just undisciplined. Maybe he knew what he was doing, it was just so fun he couldn't help himself. Take my reply to bri above. I saw his post first thing this morning, but I had more pressing matters. Getting emotionally involved in shit posted on the net is a bad idea IMHO.

Ah, John's rants. Good old days. John was not stupid, but he was opiniated. He also practiced law before he started EE. Contrary to what some believed, he also was not one of the founders of DiscoWeb, nor was he an owner at any point. He also had no patience for what he considered stupidity and expressed himself accordingly. His style probably had something to do with his legal training.

Once he started a bulletin board on EE, he migrated off DiscoWeb to his own board. There was no drama around that at the time.
John is actually a nice guy and a competent wheeler. I wheeled with him and the other California boys a few time back in the day.

People that know him present a different person than he displayed here. So be it. Enough of talking about him. I remember you as being above the fray. Good to see you check in.

I never interacted with the guy so you wasted your time posting this.

Good, I wouldn't want you to be emotionally involved. Glad we had this talk.

I find it interesting you edited this. That your first post was even stupider than this lame ass bullshit.
Stupider. Funny.

If you can't handle me calling you a dumbass for judging someone incorrectly you may not get along with John LOL.

If he thought you were doing something dumb, he would tell you. I have no problem with that and can't remember John ever giving bad advice when it came to Rovers.

I don't need someone to be overly cautious with their words or opinions when their advice is sound and they save me money, time and give outstanding service. John is a no BS guy. His standards for servicing his customers is extremely high. His attention to detail is to be commended.

"Maybe John wasn't stupid"... you think?

Undisciplined? I would have never thought to use that description of John.

He engaged others on the internet that he had never meant and considered beneath himself. You could tell he enjoyed posting pretty demeaning things for a dopamine hit. And you consider someone like the highly disciplined and intelligent? On second thought reading you post I guess you might. That said, others here who seem level headed say he's a great guy. IDK and I really don't fucking care anymore. Have his children for all I fucking care. I guess I'm just as bad for letting myself get sucked into this shit.

Meh. John Lee was a classist. He would have made a great land owner in old England. He liked those with money and equal status.
Other than that, he was a whole lot of fun to spar with late at night after bar runs on weekends.
Dweb was almost like a message board back in those days. Damn that was fun! It's also why I have more user names on this board then anyone.

Not more user names than Kenneth. He would always come up with some irritating personality and run that till somebody just couldn’t stand the stupid.

You know in his defense. People can fit enough stupid into a post that judgments like that could be justified.

Yes I believe he is intelligent. Only said undisciplined wasn't a word I would think of using to describe him.

Dopamine hit, have his children, fowl language. And you start off complaining about him being demeaning. Wah, wah..
