So i've read a ton of posts about OME vs. RTE and OME vs. Bilsteins etc.... as well as a ton about tire type and size so i'm pretty sure i know what i want. Just thought i would make sure before pulling the trigger.......

First off - i've got a 2002 D2 with SD roof rack, factory brushbar (with trimmed bumper) and pretty much everything else stock

I am definitely ordering a RTE lift and talked to Steve on the phone the other week. Super nice guy so we agreed that a 2" HD would be the way to go. Even though i don't have aftermarket bumpers is this the way to go as opposed to a Medium weight spring? He didn't offer much about the shocks other than that most people go with OME - HOWEVER, a lot of people seem to have a love hate with Bilsteins so i'm not sure. I won't be doing any crazy offroading or modifying so not sure i need the bilsteins?? I'm moving to Colorado so i will be doing some moderate trails and a lot of dirt roads, snow etc....

Should i stick with OME or are bilsteins really worth it?

Lastly - i'm going with 265/75 R16 BFG AT KO's - was going to just order them from Tire Rack - anyone know of any other good deals going on?

Thanks a lot!

Was getting a hole in my Honda Elements tire repaired at Tire Discounters today and they have a deal to get a $50 prepaid debit card with the purchase of 4 BFG tires - not sure if you have them in your area but worth a look...

Also, i am not knowledgeable enough to do the work myself so i will have a good LR mechanic do it - is it easier to install the OME because it bolts on or does the bilstein too?

If i understand correctly - if i wanted to go with the 3" lift and i had the bilsteins, it would work well but if i had the OME and wanted to go 3" it would not be too good?

Thanks for the advice - appreciate it

I went with the 3" RTE and researched all sorts of shocks and decided on procomp. Rides really nice and every OME shock I have seen has rusted to hell. Buy what you need and pack it up. There are plenty of Solihull guys that will help you install it when you get out here to Colorado. I did my own.

I just ordered the 3" RTE springs but i went with the Rancho shocks. I have used them before and they work good. Dont know how they are on a D II though. I will have the springs tomorrow and the shocks Friday. If your not in a hurry ill be posting pics as i go with the install. Ill be getting 255/85/16 trxus swampers sometime this weekend or mid next week. I hope it doesnt suck. It will be a loooong ride to MAR if it sucks.
P.S. My truck is torn apart now so if you need any pics let me know.

I have the RTE 5" with Bilsteins 7100's, and a Bilsteins d90 steering damper, on my 96 disco had the omes and like the bilsteins better.

Ok some good advice thanks fellas but i am definitely doing a 2" since this is going to be my DD and i don't have the extra money to buy the extra equipment for a 3"

So sticking to the 2" - it probably doesn't matter much then?

I have JUST done the 2" RTE lift (on a stock 2000 DII, I got ~2.75" lift, however. I went with the OMEs as I was on a budget. I recently wheeled a 6/7 here in Colorado and I wasn't bumping the ends at all, but as long as you have in your sway bars you won't. Go ahead and get the steering stabilizer at the same time.

Seriously, I wouldn't blow the money on the having a LR guy install them. Bring the kit with you to Colorado and we can do it in my garage in a couple of hours!

You will not need to worry about rust here in Colorado. Dry as hell and Denver lays MagCLoride, not salt.

I went with OMEs from www.LRRForums.com store (didn't get the shocks at the same time as the springs). LRRFrorums was a little cheaper than Steve, but since you are getting your springs from him at the same time it will be cheaper to get them all shipped together.

Tire-wise... unless you have plenty of money, look around on Craig's List, etc. and see if you can't get used tires cheap.

I got 5 BFG Muds (4 of them with 60%+ tread) for $100 (the spare has never seen the ground). Honestly, my preference would have been 265/75/16s, but for less than 1/5 the cost I settled for 245/75/16s and they are GOOD ENOUGH for what I do.

Seriously, if you want to bring it all to Denver with you I will help you put them on at no charge... Except for maybe some beer, not to be consumed while installing the lift, of course.

.how Much Lift Do You Get From The 766 (ome) Front Spring In A D2? The 2" Dosnt Net That (i Got 1.5 Approx ) So Assuming The 3" Would Be Less??? I Only Want A True 2.25 To 2.5" What Do You Guys Think.
Keeping In Mind To Post Rte Out To Australia Would Cost More Than The Springs Themselves...

Magnesium chloride IS a salt ... though less corrosive to steel than the rock salt (sodium chloride aka halite) typically used as a roadway deicer.

JR-
You beat me to it! I'm not so sure about the less corrosive part, I'll have to see what the NACE has to say about it-LOL, even I'm not that anal.

The only thing I can add to this discussion other than positively commenting on your chemistry knowledge is that I break Blingenstein shocks. I have yet to break a Pro-Comp.

You learn something new every day.

I am currently running the Rancho RS9000's with my RTE 3" lift...when I eventually replace the shocks, I think I am going to give Bilstein a shot.
