I can see why they didn't want to tear up new trucks with inexperienced drivers on the track. Parts of the track were under water with the mud I've mentioned before underneath it. Maybe they could have simplified the track and ran people around. Ram/Jeep were giving test drives on the public road. I tried to convince a couple of vendors to drive their trucks through the camp, but they didn't want to.

Here's a Toyota, a Wrangler and a Cherokee pulling a sprinter conversion out of the camp:

And by rope I mean that looks like climbing rope.

wasn't climbing rope, but the guy who did most of the talking (jason?) talked a lot about rigging, arborist or logging supply stores for bow shackles, snatch blocks and rope. Synthetic line on the (Badlands) winch on the Pinz.

Funny part of it was when the Disco was on it's side and the instructor is asking us what we should check for. I yelled out "make sure it's in park and the parking brake is on".... and they had to actually check to see if it was. Parking brake was off, so they sent someone in through the rear hatch to pull it up.

The rest of the expo was pretty good. I saw some cool stuff at various vendors. Some camera/intercom stuff from Sena. Would be useful for my friends who do more sand riding than trails. More food this year with a couple of food trucks and the Lodge serving a buffet.
I too didn't want to drive my 1/10 scale Hilux around sunday morning at the breakfast. Too muddy for me :p

Rant on

What sad is that we when did the demo, we used what we carry in the trucks, nothing special, nothing that you'd need to buy at a logging supply store and using a figure 8 repelling device is fucking stupid

Remember the first year, we even showed how to remove a injured person from the truck, and she was kinda cute

Poor training and instruction can lead to bad situations in the real world...

As for Land Rover bailing, do they expect never to have to drive in shitty conditions

rant off

The year we ran a recovery class I witnessed 2 complete dolts try to demonstrate a Hi Lift come-a-long. It was wildly scary!

Anyone - and I do mean anyone - can be an "instructor". Its far from hard. Make up some shit about where you've driven and hang your shingle or write a check, take a test, and get a piece of paper that magically "certifies" you as one. I've said it for several years now - someone is going to get hurt.

I sent a very honest email to Roseann last year about my feelings on how their vision of creating Expo training teams would compromise the quality of training and create a liability for them. Generally speaking I don’t think it’s a smart idea of have sales people and part-time enthusiasts “training”. You simply can’t maintain a consistent, quality product when you have the source of that information coming from so many places on top of varying abilities and skill levels. But for them it was a point of pride to create their own “team” the last few years.

OEX was at the Expo from the very first year through 2013, but I decided it wasn't going to be something we'd be a part of any longer. It was going to end up being a liability for us. Especially since such a small part of our revenues come from the civilian side of training - it just didn't make sense to me after my conversations with them.

I actually agree with Garret, we started the roll-over as a "demo" not a class and never was it intended to be anything more than a example of how to safely recover a vehicle when it rolls.

While OEX is a high-quality outfit, some of the other "professionals" were and are idiots...

The demo was a realistic example of how and what happens when a truck rolls, not unlike when wargasm loses at BBQ comps or or the his latest World of Warcraft session

Someday you'll realize that no one really gives two-shit about you or what you think

Really…at what BBQ or World of WarCraft…and the last BBQ comp I went too was like watching jeeps guy's spout off about how cool thier trucks were…

once again, I really think no one cares

wait for it…here comes 75 paragraphs about how many comps wargasm has competed in…or maybe a list of WWC accomplishments
