Poppin P1174 + P0154 + P0174 codes, exhaust smells like crap, and the MAF is about 2 years old. front O2 sensors are new, rear are probably original with 110k on them..

oh, FYI if it is important, the drivers side cat might be coming loose in the shell, I can feel slight rattling under foot when accelerating from a stand still...

any ideas???

OH, if it matters, these codes appeared about 20 mins after i put a can of seafoam in the gas tank, AND inspected the air filter....

thanks for any words!!!!

I had the same codes for about 2 years, eventually found out it was the MAF.

BUT! Many different things could have caused it:
- vacuum leak or unmetered air downstream from the MAF
- bad or leaking purge value
- bad O2s (easy to test these btw)
- bad temp sensor causing the computer to think its running too cold or too hot leading to changes in mixture

I also have a theory that bad or corroded connections to the battery in the D2 can cause all kinds of ugly things to happen (ie burning out sensitive measurement gear) and I know that mine were bad. It didn't occur to me until my clock fried followed by 3 months of constantly burning out my brake lights and turn signals. Check your battery terminals before installing the new MAF (if you go that route) is my main suggestion

Batt Terminal -
unplug battery terminals, clean with a terminal brush, re-attach. Make sure they are nice and tight. My + lead was loose, full of crustys, and not working well. Coke or soda will neutralize the crustys as well.

O2's -
There are a few different ways to test your O2s. Here are a few things I tried described on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mb4VmDd0ao
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXPdhai_5iE

I pulled mine out, keeping track of which ones went where, and tried both methods. Make sure they give proper output ~1.0v and also return to 0v quickly.

Purge Valve -
You can test the purge valve by simply unplugging it from the feed line into the intake and plugging the intake feed line with a plug or stopper. The purge value will vent out to the outside air. Reset your codes and see if they come back again.

Look at your O2's first. A MAFS issue is ususally indicated by a transmission shift fault code and that is not listed in your post.

on it!!!

thanks guys!!

again though, what O2 sensors are those codes pointing too???

... does it matter? There's really no way to tell from those codes, atleast from the research that I've done. Just pull them all and test 'em. If they all look good, and the other issues mentioned check-out, then would consider buying a MAF.

Yep it is the 4th gear ration incorrect or something like that, can't remember it verbatim.

Same problems here - including the rattling under foot while accelerating...

Also, I did a quick search and cound't find what the "driver's side cat" - What is that...???

Try spraying MAF cleaner into the MAF sensor, dry it out, get codes reset, and see what happens. I am something like 4 years after doing this to my D1 MAF sensor and still going strong.

Check sensors. and plugs for oil. I had one that oil was leaking into the connector and caused them to go bad.

I keep a couple bad sensors around to test because I know their bad
