P38 and H gate

Hello all.
I'm still trying to get my shifter to work in low forward.
It shifts fine in high, so does that mean the cable is OK?
The transfer box ECU seems to work, when I put it in neutral it makes the switch to low. I can put it in P and R. My dash lights show low and P and R.
As I try to shift in 4 it will not go! I have taken the BeCM plug off and cleaned and reseated the contacts. I have check fuses.
The only thing I really haven't done is take the H gate a part and see if something is jammed inside.
I have also taken the shifter knob off and checked the button and made sure it was indeed working.

Thanks,
Dieter

Yes, It will go into reverse, and I have backed it up.
As soon as try and put it 4 low it will not go.
Thanks

The Lou!
Were you able to get the duplicate title for the registration? If so, bring it on up thursday night along with a flashlight and maybe we could have a collective looksie.

The bad news is...
I'm still waiting on the title. I'll tell you all about it on Thurs.
The Good news is...
I took the H gate off and I think I found the problem.
The shifter moves in between two metal pieces, which makes up the H.
The bottom part facing upward, was bent over to the right. So it wouldn't go down, because it had no where to go.
I bent it back, so now I just have to put it back together.
It's pretty dirty in there, I found two parking tickets and a bunch of food crumbs.
I will clean it out tomorrow.
Now that I have it a part, might be a good time to order a new boot.
Thank you very very much ptschram. I really appreciate you help on this.
When I get it back together, I will let you guys know what happen.

No problem Dieter. I kinda suspected as much as most P38s never get put into low range.

Grab some contact cleaner and hose the entire circuit board down, you'll thank me later.

Good luck on the title. I had a truck titled three times as a Toyota and was threatened with arrest when I offered to show the guy at the DMV where the truck was made.

It took three tries to get my Series truck titled (I should have kept drving it on the export docs). The DMV told me they were gonna seize it twice as they said I couldn't prove ownership. When I finally got a title, all of the blocks said unknown! I sold a truck that was an unknown age, unknown model, unknown fuel type, unknown wheelbase, but it was a blue Lad Rover!

Just the kind of folks I want running MY health care!

I have some contact cleaner at home.
I'll vacuum it out tonight and put it back together.
I have a good feeling it will work.
Thanks again

It worked! it worked!
That was it, the bottom of the H gate (inside) was bent to the right, keeping the shifter from going down.
It took me longer to clean it out than to put it back together.
The plastic cover on the knob is cracked, but it was before. So, I'll look for one of those.
A million thanks!
