Posessed Sunroofs

Today was the first rain for me and my 98 Disco. It was parked all day in the rain, then when I drove it, both sunroofs opened on there own. Neither would close with either button. After a bit, the front sunroof button worked and I was able to close it. The second one never did, and it makes a small clicking noise as though it's still trying to open itself. I'm assuming something got wet, causing the malfunction, but I'm not sure what to look for.

In the meantime, I've popped off the finisher and used an allen wrench to manually close the rear sunroof... but it won't close all the way (it doesn't pop downward, just slides forward). How can I get it to close all the way? It's still drizzling outside :(

The expression on your face must have been priceless. Lord knows I wouldn't have any idea what to think.

Rovers are fun. :p

Take A Stab

Without looking at the truck I would say the Sunroof ECU has gone haywire..It is located on the front under the panel where you accessed the allen screw...

As far as completely shutting it...You are going to hit a tight spot on the window motor where you feel or think you are through...but its not..I would recommend...Be careful though.that daggon thing is easy to strip..
If you need one I have the ecu.

The expression on my face WAS pretty funny. And then there was a string of expletives when freezing rain poured in! I just ran outside to give it another try, and as soon as I turned the key, it opened again! But still no using the button to close. I used my allen wrench again, and this time it closed all the way for me.

Now how can I disconnect the motor so that it doesn't open on my way to work tomorrow in the rain?

I'm guessing that I will need your ECU, Will. And am I right in guessing that I can disconnect my faulty one to keep it from opening on my way to work?

So how did my ECU get wet in the first place? Could plugged up sunroof drain tubes have caused a leak?

Ecu

Its A Fairly Simple Swap Out...first Though Unplug The Ecu...give It A Day Or So And See If It Magically Drys Out And Works Like Some Of These Daggon Things Do..if Not Email Me And I Will Send This One To You.
ALSO...I AM NOT SURE IF THE ECU GOT WET AT ALL..I JUST ASSUMBED IT DID.. I have seen a couple crap out over the last couple of years but it is few and far between.

it plugs in from the windshield side of the ecu...without being in the truck i think you can reach it from the homelink cover or map light that is on the overhead console...if not then grab the screwdriver and a beer or two :) you will need to drop the console...hopefully not though.

that is a pretty crazy feelin though -- my rear roof opened up by itself on the expressway... almost like one of those crazy active spoilers... pretty funny.

Alyssa was right, pulling the fuse was the easiest way to keep my sunroofs closed for now. Once the weather clears up, I'll try checking the ECU that Will mentioned, and also see if I can get a look at the drain tubes

Finally a dry day, so I took off my map holder and took a looksie... the ECU was FILLED with water. There's a cell phone antenna mounted right above it, and that's where the water came in. Why would someone cut a whole in the roof?? I sealed it with silicone, so it should stay dry from now on. But the ECU is trash - tried drying it out and spraying with contact cleaner, but nothing.

Will, do you still have that extra ECU? If so, I sure could use it! Your profile doesn't allow email, so could you send me one instead?
