I need to get some work done on my 2003 Discovery and stopped by the shop this morning for a once over and a quote, let me know what you think. I would attempt some of this myself but I just dont have the time right now.

Power steering pump rebuilt/ new hoses
New plugs and wires
Valve cover gaskey replaced
New coils

$1100 price tag includes labor

What do you think?

Great reputation from everything I have heard. Been in business for 17 years.

I bought the truck 6 months ago and I'm unsure what has been done honestly. It needs the power steering serviced for sure, and I wanted to go ahead and redo the plugs, wires, and coil packs while we were redoing the valve cover gasket to ensure I'm good to go.

I bet the heads are leaking... Not just valve covers.

I agree . Or at least the intake gasket . I think the price sounds fair . Not sure I would put coils on it just to do them . They do fail but not so often I would replace it just to do it . As for the valve covers , I'm sure they leak but to do that job and stop short of at least the intake gasket doesn't make a lot of sense . Have you tried to see if the valve cover bolts are loose ? You could at least slow the leak if you snugged them up .

Well honestly im not having an issue with heads or valve covers at all i just saw it fit to get it handled all in one swoop while doing the plugs and wires. The only real issue i'm having is the power steering.

The shop is Braddy's British Motorworks in Youngsville,NC

I guess if they have the plenum off to do the wires your right about them being able to do the valve cover gaskets . Kind of take advantage of the plenum being off . Couldnt hurt as long as he is aware of the little inserts in the gaskets (at all bolt holes). If someone is not aware they can fall into the engine and cause a lot of trouble .

Ok sounds good maybe I'll cancel the coils and just do the others. Steering has to be serviced, as well as new plugs and wires while they are working might as well get the gasket handled for peace of mind

I don't know about spending any on the gaskets if its not leaking . Next year you may get new valve cover gaskets with a much needed intake gasket . Not wishing anything bad on you , just saying . So if you need plug wires and a steering repair just do those . Keep the other money for now .

Coils are in a hot spot, but unless you are having missing issues, no need to change now. Save $ and do later when you have time or a missing issue. Wires are the best way to keep coils longer.
