Problem after sitting. Who knows their stuff?

Last time out my disco was fine. Haven't been in town lately, so it sat for a month or two without being cranked w/ 1/8 tank of gas. When I got back, I hooked the battery up and she cranked fine. Let it idle for a min or two, then drove for 3-4 miles perfect. Running 45mph all the sudden seemed like it just started choking. Bogged down and backfired a few times and kept doing it everytime I pushed the gas. Luckily I was right next to a gas station so I filled up with 93. Let it sit there for a min idling but everytime I pushed the gas it would just continue to bog down until I let off the gas (but would idle fine). Finally after sitting there I could rev it w/ no issue and got confident enough to drive on. Also noticed at idle one time while sitting the tach was not registering. Made it about 1/2mile and started again even worse. It got to the point I could even move it. Few hours later I got it trailered home.
Here is what I did: Put a can of seafoam in it with Lucas fuel stabilizer, changed fuel filter, plugs, wires.
Cranked up perfect, idled perfect, took it on the same trip and it bogged down in the exact same spot 3-4 miles down the road. P1316 code shot up. Turned around and it seemed fine. Bogged down again and then I was able to drive about 3 miles w/ no issue until I pulled out from a stop sign and it did it again, so I held it to the floor and it choked for a second and then was fine the rest of the ride home (which was about a mile). WTF? Has anyone had this problem?
First thoughts: VSS, TPS or Injector. Or would this just be the gas separated on me and needs to clear on out? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm thinkin you''ll get more accurate help faster if you follow the advice in the "sticky" thread at the top of the forum (it's always the first topic in the Discovery - Technical Discussions forum).

First question these days when someone mentions a dead tach needle is: is it a rebuilt alternator, like from advance auto parts or autozone??

which leads to the next thread...'hey my alternator is dead, wtf!'

looks like a d1 from the profile pic...

p1316 is just a misfire causing excessive emissions/possible catalyst damage....was it flashing? could be any damn thing ;)

it would be nice if it would give you a corresponding code to tell which cylinder/s the fault is coming from.

is there anything else going on with the truck relevant?

you need to start with the basics i guess...
fuel pressure? it is possible that you had a leaking injector/s that flooded out while sitting but i would expect that to go away pretty quick after running a while.
good spark on all 8?
air...

also, pull plugs and see what they look like as it could tell you where to start looking.

i am lazy...so if it were mine i would be inclined to drive it (as long as cel isnt blinking) a while and see if more codes dont pop up.

the tach needle...was this just a momentary thing? check the output of the alt. the vss usually shows problems at higher-ish speeds plus it will not throw a p1316.

sorry, not much to go on...

ok, reread your post....forget about the leaky injector. that would show up right when you first start it.

It is not a rebuilt alternator, it is the original one, which should be bigger w/ the lights and winch, etc I know. What should my alternator be reading? Just 12v?
Last time out, it would idle fine and drive for for a few miles then it just starts to bog down, but then would act like it cleared itself out. I cleared the code before I changed the plugs and wires and filter, and it has not come back on (granted I only drove it about 8-9 miles total since). Fuel pressure seems to be fine. And the tach needle was @ 0 while it was idling one time, I haven't noticed it again. But when it would bog and I'd push the gas it would just backfire and have no power for about 10-15 seconds and then it was fine. Any other suggestions?

I'm running 2 year old gas just fine in my Saturn after replacing engine other day.

But my D1 ran just like urs after i did my head gaskets and i cured it by cleaning crank and cam sensor plugs. Since I cleaned both at same time I don't know which was the problem.
