Hi guys Im considering going to Colorado for seasonal work that may turn up into full time and me moving there ,the work is in the oil fields and the 2 places available are Fort Collins in the north or Colorado springs in the south. The question is , as far as raising a family what 2 areas is better , schools ,crime ect.. , I'll appreciate any info Thanks

Both have their areas. I would not hesitate to do either. Ft Collins is a college town but more conservative than Boulder. Springs is a little more conservative. And bigger more city like.
As a frequent visitor, we end up in springs a lot, no reason to go to ft Collins.

Springs is close to a bunch if easy access mountain sports and a hour from skiing. But wait for the locals to chime in.

Edit, oh Ya I'm jealous.

Thanks for the info , my other choices were N. Dakota -60 degrees wind child at night is not cutting it and Midland Texas don't know anything about that part of Texas , with my previous company I was sent to 31 states and my favorite has always been Colorado , twice I was there and twice I stay for 2 weeks , Steamboat was my favorite city , but I was single and no kids them , now I a wife and 3 daughters 2,6 and 7 that I have to think about .

Fort Collins is frequently on the list of best places to raise a family. Plus New Belguim Brewery and Odell are up there.

CO Springs..... well Focus on the Family is there and to say CO Springs is a "bit more conservative" would be an understatement. There is also a large Army Base down in CO Springs. So that comes with good and bad.

Ft. Collins would have my vote but you wouldn't go wrong with either. I'm in Cheyenne and we go to Ft. Collins frequently. I've thought a lot about making the commute but I don't have any state income tax here and my kids can do part public school and part homeschool in Wyoming.

If you want a small town Wellington is just a few minutes north of Ft. Collins.

Where are you drilling?

FoCo is a college town.
And there may be cattle.
As I recall, it is also a slaughterhouse town.
To the good, you can't have a slaughter without laughter!

CO Springs does have the Focus on the Family headquarters.
They are, as you may have heard, a tad more conservative than most folks.
And by "a tad more conservative than most folks", I mean "hyper conservative busy-body asshats".
But I digress.

FotF doesn't control COS, in fact, I'd say FotF has less impact on COS than CSU has on FoCo.
COS is also home to the US Air Force Academy, Pike's Peak & Garden of the Gods.
Cheyenne Mountain is there, NORAD is no longer hiding inside, from what I hear.
COS has a little airport, FoCo does not.

COS is probably a little "quieter" than FoCo, what with those young college punks and their rock and roll music.
Neither is particularly close to Steamboat, as I'm sure you've noticed.

Personally, I'd probably go with COS. But I'm a stodgy old fuck.

Edit Add:
Politically, COS is conservative republican, I don't know about FoCo.
COS did that recall thing when a state congresscritter voted in favor of gun control.
As midget mayor mike bloomtard says, that part of the world only has dirt roads.
Of course, since he's a cunt new yorker, he thinks pavement is a good thing.

The slaughterhouse is in Greeley and it stinks. However, the south end of town (Garden City) smells fantastic!

Thank you to everyone that reply , most people are pointing me to Colorado springs ...now please tell me more about the conservative type town , Im not into politics and can care less , but what I do want is a safe place with good public school ratings , on another note and this will be a plus is that the area near by will have some offroad areas and outdoor family fun ,maybe some skiing too.
Im probably going to scout the area in June 2015 and may stay for the summer if all goes well

I moved from COS one year ago. We lived there for 3 years. It's a great town. Not as exciting as Denver, of course, but not a bad place to live. Ignore the BS from people about the conservatism. Most of the town is very middle-of-the-road. Avoid the Security/Wakefield/Fountain areas. Dangerous and shitty schools.

I've lived in both cities, moved from East Texas 20 years ago for the climate. Colorado springs is a bit closer to the mountains than Denver or Fort Collins, which moderates the weather a bit. I'm on the Northeast side of CS at just over 6500 ft. No bugs (no screens on my windows) and use AC only a few days in the summer. The climate does vary widely in the metro area. Security/*Widefield/Fountain are lower in altitude and closer to the river. Hotter temps and mosquitoes are another big reason to avoid that area.

Colorado Springs wins over Fort Collins for weather and lack of bugs. Also the lowest utility rates in the state.
Politically, I'd say CS is more Libertarian than Republican, or maybe that's just my social group.

Sunshine, sublimation and no bugs. Colorado Springs has the best climate in North America. San Diego is a close second :)

Thanks again Im probably going to be looking in living outside of town , I like my space and you get more land for the same money and I don't mind driving a extra half hour if I can get a larger property so I can have all my vehicles and room to play , the no bugs is a big plus , Im in Miami in heat ,humidity and sea 6ft over sea level we get all kinds of bug and reptiles , ac stays on year long is off at night maybe a few weeks per year

none of your fucking business
I'll be looking to make the same move in about a year, my two choices are Cheyenne, WY and COS.

I lived in Colorado Springs as a kid while my dad was at NORAD. loved every minute of it. I went to Pioneer Elementary and my Siblings went to Palmer and Rampart.

lived down the street from the Olympic Training Center, it was a great place to be 8 with the parks and the mountains.

Can't wait to get back out there.
