Jamming laser? Nah... don't buy the hype- you're MEAT if they have a laser. The headlights are easy targets for the laser gun and have a nice huge return.
Steve,
They just showed an episode of "Fifth Gear" on Speed Channel where they tested a laser jammer and the results were quite positive. Simply, they work. They also detect the laser directed at the cars in front of you, not just the one pointed at you.
Briefly, they mounted the unit in the front of a Volvo wagon, just above the license plate, and below the bumper. The unit detected the laser, jammed the signal so that the gun showed an error, warned the driver, and then shut off.
The theory is that the cop gets the error on his first try and then you can slow down, and if he still pulls you over the unit is off, so he can't try to trigger the device.
The "talking head" (a.k.a. expert) said the biggest problems with the unit are installation related. Many people don't install the unit properly so they have a reputation for being ineffective.
Regardless, for crying out loud, it's a 4500 pound Land Rover Discovery. I don't know how much faster than the posted limit I'd want to go with the lousy brakes and momentum they carry.
