Rattle in new thermostat

Basically replacing the whole front of my 4.6 V8, so I've had a few questions lately. Thanks for all the help.

I just picked up a new thermostat. I've noticed when I pick it up it makes a rattling sound, like something may be loose inside it. Is this normal? My mechanic seems to think it may just be the type of valve used in the LR thermostat. I phoned the dealer but they don't have one on hand to compare.

Question is does your old one rattle? If so there's your answer

Haven't had a chance to take old one off yet. Truck is at a friends waiting to go back together. Was hoping to get all the parts together at once and then head over there. May have to make a few trips to compare thermostats. Not sure if an old one would be a fair comparison as it has 60K miles on it. Perhaps the valve only rattles when new.

Land Rover thermostats have a "Jiggle" pin to allow some flow when closed, it's probably that making the noise.

Thanks, that's what my buddy said when he listened to it. For now I won't return it. I'll compare with the old one once it's out.
