That gasket is an anti squeal backing. I have used both with no ill effects.

If it's just anti squeal..
If it's just anti squeal, then no big deal.. Just use a generous supply of the sticky blue anti squeal stuff. I've found the trick is to put plently on, and give it plenty of time to set up. It's should be semi-dry, almost a rubbery consistency before you install. This way you dont scrape it off while installing the pads. (I haven't changed my Disco rear pads yet - only have 11K miles on my 'new' '03. So this tip comes from previous (lots) of brake work on my other cars...

Oh yeah, and BTW Bill's talkin about some lady at the park who's car wouldn't start. I couldn't spend too much time with it, Cosmo had to go chase wabbits.

I did my rears a few weeks ago, they didn't come with the pads and they are making a heck of a racket. Not the harmonic brake squeal you usually get on braking when you first change pads, but a horrid squeaking when I am moving after I've stopped.
