i would kill for a garage. i live in he oakland hills in california and most night the fog rolls in and covers everything in moisture. my poor old 73 BMW motorcycle is rusting as we speak, or type. also the rental house i am in has a carport but the house is built on the side of a steep slope hill. like 45 degrees, so the carport and drive way are actualy on top of the house. when i changed out the suspension i parked the disco in the carport so i could have some shelter from the sun. when i went in the house all my doors were racked and wouldnt open. the rover was a bit too heavy for the struture. scarey huh?

so needless to say i need to find a home of my own. the downside is that a 2 bedroom in a non scarey neighborhood is running around 650k asking price. with over bidding it's closer to 710k. the rover seemed much more easily accomplished to me. i have misplaced goals. i admit it.

5k is less than 1% of the cost of that house. Buy the rover.

And if you allow yourself to think like that, you'll never get a house. Eye on the prize, Young Jedi, eye on the prize.....

Go with the house first, you won't be sorry. Well, unless you buy in a flood zone :p

It's hard for me to say $5k is a fair price, considering what I used to buy Rovers like that for, but I have to face the fact that Series prices have gone crazy since the coilers came stateside and there's more money in the market.

As long as the spring perches are solid you can drive a series with a really crapped out frame for a long time. I drove a 109 for years with no problems that was 1" shorter on the right side, just between the front cross member (the bumper for newbies) and the bulkhead outrigger.

You'd be hard pressed to get $1000 for the PTO winch. One just went on ebay for $225, and it was the transfer case PTO kind that's more rare. (I forgot to come back and bid on it :( )

Given what really clean Series 88's are going for, if someone has the time and energy, $5k isn't bad these days. If it were me, I'd try to get the price down some.

But remember, house first. ;)

notched crossmemebr

ok so the series rover buying is off (for the time being) but i have one question. when i was looking at this rover i was looked underneath at the frame and looked at the crossmember that runs under the transfer case there was a notch cut in it directly beneath the drive shaft. The cross memeber was reinforced with a piece of 1"x1" angle steel. the owner rambled on about how it was cut to make room for something to do with a military part. not sure what he meant and though maybe it was just a hack job and he was trying to sell me on the benefit that it provided. can anyone tell me why you would notch the crossmember at that point? just curious for my own knowledge sake.

thanks.
