Rotella 15w40 vs Mobil 1 Synth TD 5w40

Has anyone used Royal Purple...is it just ALL hype?

They make great oil. They're 10w40 has a HTHS of 4.05 and their 15w40 has a HTHS of 4.2.

X2 on Royal Purple. Great stuff, I've used it most of my vehicles. I'm using Amsoil right now, but thats because it was easier for me to get.

Why would you be concerned? Worse case scenario is that the synthetic eats away all the sludge and Reveals worn out seals (which causes leaking). If the seals leak they needed to be replaced anyways.

I like that oil A lot.. I might try it for my next oil change.

what about all the sludge that gets loosened up and clogs your pickup starves your motor of oil and then you kill it how many people run it for less than 3000 to check to make sure there pickup is not clogged or getting clogged

If I could get the Ames 5W40 I would use it, but I can't get it here where I live. I'll have to go with the M1 Synth.

The way i see it and have seen it in cars. If you start with synthetic and stay with synthetic you are ok . If you start with synthetic and switch to nonsynthetic your still fine. if you start with nonsynthetic and switch to sythetic before 30000. You should be ok mabe some gaskets to change as long as you were good to the truck and changed the oil regularly. After 30000 i would start to be weary of switching to synthetic.

You may want to do an engine flush, I did this at 45K on a ford once and got good results. BTW - a show called Brink had a segment on an "X Prize" for MPG and one of the first things the competitors did is switch to a full synthetic oil.

I use the Rotella T 5w40 synthetic and don't have any problems with it. I started using it around 60k and now have about 81k.

It has been in my rover for 2000 miles so far. 60K miles on the truck.

I switched to synthetic at around 45K miles... Had to change all the gaskets though. warranty covered it.

You don't want a single weight. Way too thick for starting up. (right?)

I don't think the Rotella 5W40 is a full real Synthetic as the M1 Synth TD 5W40 is.

"German" Castrol 0w-30. Rotella 5w-40 is good too.
