Some of you guys wanted to see completed pics of the rear bumper I built for my RRC. Hinge is from rockstomper.com, latch is a da sta from Reid tool. Mocked up the bumper with foam board and then went to town with a sawzall, 1/8th and 1/4 inch sheet metal. Took a couple weekends to weld it up and paint it. Cost me a totall of about $250. I will guarantee the bumper outlasts my rover. Quarter panel protection was in the plan but I will add later.

Thanks, I do run FL plates but now live in CT. I still own property in FL so the tag stays. No tax on vehicles like CT.

The bearing assembly is from rockstomper.com. A very well put together unit. The best one I have found so far.

Great job. I have a mate at work who welds. So I am in the future ghoing to do a mockup as well. The hack some steel and have him to the pretty welding job.

Now, is that a snorkel for a RRC? Or did you adapt a DI or DII? I like the look, and have been thinking what it would take to adapt a DI/DII snorkel to a RRC.

It is a d1 safari snorkle. I plastic welded it and sealed it to work like any other RRC snorkle. The only part of the snorkle that is used is the rear vertical section. It works and it was free.

How about this idea...tell me why it's bad.

Have the tire/gas can combo switched so that you can siphon the fuel w/out removing the can from the bracket.

I thought about this, and then realized the wieght of the tire is supported by the hinge. Then I wondered why you couldn't make it swing in the opposite direction so that you could have the tire on the left, gas can on the right?

I like the setup a lot. Just trying to give some suggestions on refining the design.

I thought about putting the hinge on the opposite side. It actually makes more sense to put the tire behind the driver. My buddies talked me out of it, arguing that it was more convenient for the driver to open if the latch was on the drivers side. The next one I build will have the hinge on the drivers side.

Good luck with that! I hope you don't have a CT license. If you were to try that in Indiana and got pulled over for the obscured license plate, if you had an Indiana drivers license, you'd probably find your truck impounded.

When I lived in Balto, the apartment complex would warn the residents when the cops were checking license plates!

I hear people asking about mounting the tire on the rear of the LR3. If you come up with a design, you could be ahead of the others when people start heavily wheeling their LR3s.

Having the tire on the right side doesn't obscure the view out of the rear window. Just remount the liscence plate to the spare tire or gas can bracket. I guess you could still get pulled over for not having a light on it but it's never happened to me.
