Safety Devices woes

Ok, just curious, does anybody have any complaints about the Safety Devices roof racks and/or what are some improvements that could be made to it? I was thinking maybe a fairing for wind noise and more tabs for attachment points. The darn thing is so well designed it doesn't have many negative traits but I was just curious as to what some had thought?

My thoughts are that they should brush the dust off of their equipment and get to making some more racks. Anytime they are asked if/when they are going to begin making some racks, they always respond with email saying basically "I don't know...do you think anyone will buy them? If so, how many do you think people will buy?"

It's getting old.

I had a rack on my DI, I put a 2 x 2 wire mesh into it as a floor.

I now have one on my DII, I really, really miss that floor. It is difficult to walk around on without loosing your balance, but it is such a nice thing to be able to do, that you really need a floor.

The wire mesh I used allowed you to tie down at any spot on the entire rack. It was actually steel, galvanized, and it was a grid that was 4" x 4" (not 2 x 2) I cut it to size for the rack and it worked really well for all applications.

Have you tried the kennel flooring it works great.

If you use ratchet straps with the right size hooks, you don't really need tabs.

I agree with that.

Robert, I was thinking about the mounting system, but my thought is what could be done to improve it?

Instead of all the weighted distributed on those tabs, weld strips connecting the tabs so weight is somewhat better distributed along the rain gutter...aka Hannibal rack.

Only problem I can see is that I would like a work light mounting tab on each side of the rear (one for a work/back-up lamp, one for a dust lanp), and I wish they Galvanized them before powdercoating, as mine is staring to rust in spots, I'll be adding the 2nd work light tab and getting it re-coated this summer, so no biggie.

Man all of you auburn engineers have been putting some thought into this.........

Well, if you have ever been to auburn, you know that there is nothing to do. The 4 bars we have get old after a few weeks. The only thing we have to look forward to is the Rodeo this weekend. So I guess this is the best we can do in our free time, haha.
