Looks like recommended service life of synthetic line is like 6 years ish and less if its been abused or shocked.

Who here sells winch lines and is going to the rally in Moab?

Make a deal and I will buy it from ya versus order online tuesday for friday deliver and pay 2 day shipping, or just getting that 5th year outta my line.

I need 3/8" about 90 feet, and want someone to re attach my hook etc. chafe guards are handy and I like HD.

my amsteel blue is about 4 solid yrs old now, and well scuffaged. It did what it said it would and did it well. I'd buy it again, unless you have something else at the same pricepoint.

I could get one more rally outta it but I suppose if I am feeling that way it may be a good time to spool some fresh line on for another 4 years of winching.

You're really a dumb ass, Gem.
I am not Viking nor winchline nor in any way associated with them. I have heard, however, a pretty good technical presentation from a guy who is.
And, IIRC, they are within 2-day UPS ground shipping from beautiful Sedona. Or Moab

I'm so poor and dumb that I am looking to spend a bit less than what's on the websites you suggested, hence my posting seeking a, um, deal

I really do thank you for your insight.
However PM, I just dont want to pay $299 for 80 feet, plus $20 for delivery, thats $320 but thanks!

I want to spend like $260 for 95 feet like here, an not pay any shipping. Pretty sure I can find that at the vendor fair, but thought I'd ask in advance. Chafe guard and thimble at that price would be perfect.

Oh Silly Me!
The $80 I'm looking to save is a whole bunch of sammiches man. Thats what we dumb folk eats.

nah, thanks for trying as well, but youre wrong:

every dumbass knows where to go online to find deals, but I do not skimp on quality and wont put no branded rope on my spool.

if OKoffraod.com can do 100 feet for $239 of Amsteel branded rope by samson, at a profit, then I suspect someone locally can too, and I dont want to pay shipping from NJ, or wait if I can avoid it. its not lesser quality. Its what I have had on there for 4 years that I'm pretty happy with.

If youre paying more than $240 for amsteel in 3/8 at 100 feet your getting ripped.
Hence I wanna spend what I said I did with thimble and chafe.

But I'm the dumbass here, according to PM.

Next poster please?

You are supposed to bid sellers after you hook them, not try to hook a seller with an advanced notice of cheapness.

If you are going to bargain with someone, at least get it right.

"I want cheap stuff that's expensive, that you might have to assemble for me. I also want it delivered, by you, by this deadline, and I want extra labor as well. Whose interested?"

C'mon man. Get smart. Don't bank on hope. You might get lucky, but you won't have had any control over the issue.

You just plain ain't got no sense, Hooker.

Cheers,

Kennith

If you want the best then you'll have to fork out some bills for the XD line. Far more resistant to abrasion and stronger then your standard synthetic line. I think it retails for close to $400. Amsteel is nice and all and better than steel, but it's not XD quality that's for sure.

If you are using your winch once in a while the Amsteel is great. If you are using your winch a lot, then the XD is best. It will outlive the Amsteel and other "standard" lines no doubt.

But hey what do I know.

check on expo, you can get a 10% discount on amsteel or XD line if you PM the guy in the sale section.

I just got he XD and all you have to do is hold it and its easy to appreciate its benefits.

Thor from Viking showed us a bunch of different lines, and broke it down by the chemistry, the original manufacturer, the resellers, rebranding, etc. IIRC, he also mentioned quantity discounts the retailers get and, more or less, his markup on that.
I don't know if/when I change my 3/8" steel cable for synthetic line, will it be Viking or other place; but it is likely to be Viking because I'll call him and ask for his advice.
For this only reason, not to be a wiseass or anything, I posted my original reply.

Getting back to you, Gem, you are dumbass because of your reaction. You are cheap ass and a whiner in general, but it is beside the point.

Ladies, this wasnt meant to turn into a which line is better thread, yeah I am being price conscious. sorry that bothers you..better does cost more

Looks like the winchline stuff

http://www.winchline.com/documents/Viking Truck Winchline Instructions v1.2.pdf

its awefully similar looking to samsons amsteel II, viking is made by samson, but again, I'm the tool here

http://www.samsonrope.com/site_files/Class_2_Double_Braid_Eye_Splice.pdf

any one know if they are the same? either way, so the question is really do you want the double layer/core design for protection or not

I have held both in my hands, not so convinced I need the better stuff, seeing how well my old rope has worn, I'm replacing a line that really doesnt NEED to be replaced, yet, so I have no problem what so ever with plain amsteel.

its not like seeing the new double layer/core technology was so mind blowingly better...

I also noticed samson has the ISO cert on their 75 fiber and regular line, didnt see it on the amsteel2/viking line..

anyways, I am fine replacing my regular amsteel with amsteel, as will be whomever is at the other end of my line

thanks for trying folks

y'all got an A for effort

I ordered more amsteel in Green..

oh,
d90dc dont be so jealous, its unbecoming.
