I think your right about a lot of the equipment on the truck. It looks like safarigard bumpers on it. I don't know for sure but I wouldn't think the Special Vehicles dept. was using those. Anybody know about that?
All that said about presentation and equipment, this truck had huge potential. When I was younger I would build some old Chevy or Olds stuff to sell. It's always best to start with something special/ Limited Edition.
The original ECO XDs just used stock LR brush guards, some with winches installed, some without. The XDs were a marketing tool for LRNA hoping to get some additional exposure on the Discovery channel broadcast, so they were ordered for the event pretty last minute. The TReK event was set to take place shortly after the ECO event, with the XD going on sale the following MY, Discovery Channel wanted a sponsor and figured the yellow would pop, so LRNA was hoping to get more air time, but they were disappointed with the results. The coverage only had a few shots of the Discoverys and they were only support/media vehicles, so there wasn't a lot to show off.
My understanding (and this is debated) is that the 28 ECO XDs were a mixture of builds pulled off the line and sprayed AA yellow, kitted and shipped to BC. I don't believe they were even built by LRSV as they don't have the plate inside the engine bay like the production XDs. The decals were applied on site for the event, as there are participants that have recounted the crazy job of putting stickers on the trucks just hours before the event started.
This example is pretty typical of a 25-year-old XD; paint fade, aftermarket parts replacing the rusted out stock junk (like the brush guards), noticeable wear/tear on the interior. I think the high selling point of XDs (TReK units, ECO, or production) comes when it either has history (like the TReKs) or is a super clean stock example. A better presentation certainly would have helped this one, but in my mind, it's not worth a premium without those two factors, even with the limited number of ECOs that were built.
Personally, I love this truck, but that's because I love any/all XDs and am happy that it's going to a good home!
