serious accessories for LR3/Disco3

I saw some great new accessories on a new Disco3/LR3 last night. Not only was it fitted with the new ARB steel winch bar (with a winch installed) and driving lights, it had the brand new (I think this is the first car to be fitted) Kaymar replacement rear bumper with dual swingaway tyre carriers. One of the tyre carriers can be converted to a jerry can holder if you don't need two spare tyres. Addtionally, in the well where the old spare tyre used to live, Long Range Automotive had installed a 100+ litre 2nd fuel tank. This gave the diesel Disco3 a fuel capacity of around 185 litres, or enough to travel over 1500km before refueling. The car looked very impressive. I've also been told that Black Widow storage systems have developed a set of storage drawers and rear cargo barrier for the Disco 3.
Of course none of these items are on any manufacturer's website yet, but they have been developed and are on the way for any serious long distance off-road tourers.

i like the bumper but the dual swing out tire carriers doesn't look good. One is enough for me, but being able to keep your park sensors and stuff is a plus

Finally.....

Finally someone figured out how to hide that ugly butt of the LR3, too bad it's not much of an improvement :puke:

They are just showing what the bar can handle I think. It's available with the tire on either side, or both, or with one tire and jerry cans. Still not available in the USA yet.

1000 mile range? Filling that tank must cost as much as the bumper.

The tank is 110 liters, which I think is about 29 gallons. My factory gas tank is only 22 gallons, so 51 gallons at 14/15 (+/-) mpg = 750 miles or therabouts. The bad news is that it adds 240 pounds of weight in fuel alone, not including the tank and rear bumper assembly!

I've ordered the Kaymar bar, but no sign of it yet.

I am led to believe that the ones being seen around are pre-production models to gauge interest and that the production model will be slightly different.

with two spares it looks like a space ship

Agreed. I am having "Strange Brew" flashbacks. The "special effects" they did to make the van appear like a space ship...I was like a one-man army, like Charlton Heston in "Omega Man." You ever see it? Beauty.

:D

Bumper is sweet, though!

isn't a dual carrier a bit overkill?

Maybe for somebody who lives on a mound of flowers? I have been on trails where people have blown multiple tires. I can imagine those guys in the outback, hundreds of miles from anywhere would really enjoy the spare confidence. Otherwise, they could be eaten :)

re: two spare tires.

If I lived in the outback miles from anywhere I sure as hell wouldn't be driving an LR3...

Yup...too bad it will be so long for these decent upgrades to get here and help the LR3's here....no foresight by LR or LRNA....I would get everything except the dual carrier, one spare is good, and you can just carry along 3 jerry cans, if you are planning 800 mile off road trips, good luck surviving let along having fuel....

*edit: looking at the first picture in that thread, I have to say it is photoshopped....but the real ones later on look good....

I've fitted the bar, but not the wheel carriers yet. And yes, they're for outback touring.

On Aug 19th I'm getting a 110litre tank put where the spare used to go.

It's all fitted now and works a treat! The aux tank appears to have an effective capacity of only 100 litres, but that's OK.

THe car still takes from the main tank and fuel can be transferred from aaux to main via a little switch on the fuel gauge.

I'll post more pics later.

Jamo, what is that nifty looking mud tire on the left? Also, is that the BB6 wheel? Looks nice. But be on the lookout for one of your "buddies" painting some eyebrows above those tires :)
