I still have my 207 Dynamic VR-27s sitting in the corner. I am sure they would be quite a novelty on the slopes today

how true.

for true novelty though how about a pair of 210 Head Standards with long thongs on Marker fixed heel bindings??

yep, still have them in the garage from the "early" skiing days.

I remember skiing in the 80's and seeing the oldsters in their Hanson boots on their Hexcels in one piece ski suits and thinking what outdated jerks they were, oh to be that young again!

I guess that would be me now but at least I would not be wearing rainbow colored mirror sunglasses.

I still have a few sets of older skis...some 210 ELAN RCGS with Marker MRR bindings...LOL

funny some outback guys still love the MRR bindings.

I ski the fatty's and the shape skis based on conditions these days and last season started on teli boards. I am old school in some ways but still ski the tough stuff so having the new easy to ski equipment is a great hedge against injury.

It seems that the moguls these days would be tighter since they are made by shorter skis and trying to ski them on 207s would be really hard.

My shoulder still hurts some days from when I blew it out skiing.

i tried a few different goggles over the years (been skiing/riding since '82) and the best goggles I've owned so far have been my Oakley A Frames. They never seem to fog up, even crusted with snow and ice, and fit my helmet very nicely.

alot depends on who is skiing the MT.

I ski mostly these days at a expert only hill that does no grooming of any kind and gets about 280" of snow a year so the bumps are huge globes that are often drifted full with fresh powder. It makes for some really crazy conditions.

We had over 1,000" of snow last winter at Alyeska Resort. The slopes have been open for several weeks now and the base of the mountain starts at sea level = max energy. Not a huge skiable area, but the resort is nice. The backcountry is unmatched. Whoever wants to come out, come on!

All ski boots hurt like hell especially if you're only going once or twice. If you get in 20 or 30 days in a winter, they don't feel as bad towards the end, but don't fool yourself, your feet are going to hurt no matter what simply because you're using muscles that you're not used to using...

Now, snowboard boots on the other hand are like stepping into a nice plush couch... Ahhhhhhh....

And all you skiiers, get outta my way!!!! Hahahahah... Seriously, I have been hit by more dumbass skiiers going backwards down the mountain like they're trying out for the friggin X-games than I have by snowboarders....
LOL
Up on Mt.Hood the boarders fly out of the woods run over you and run away. This is the truth. Fucking boarder two years ago cut a skiers neck(he had a helmit) waited around for a minute told other skiers he's going for help never to be seen again. Skier died. Boarders have no ethics. They don't folow a line or wait for the skier who has the line in front of them. Golden rule number one. The skier on the hill first has right of way. You wait for him and don't cross his line. People don't have eyes in the back of there heads. This is why I do not listen to music while skiing or wear helmit.

Boarders have not had to put in the time to learn skiing ethics. The learning curve is to fast. Us skiers all know how many fucking years it took to even be called and advanced intermediate. We really know what an amazing skiier is when we see one. Boarders all look the same. Fast, no respect, cutting in lines, pants falling off thugs.

Properly fitting ski boots should not hurt, they are tight but they should not give you shin bangs or other problems.

That was me. I can't get my groove on shaped ski's. When I want to fly my Fat K'2s leave me dreaming of my old CoupeDmond Dynastar 207's GS skis. Those puppys could fly. One ski w/Marker M44's weighed more than my pair of slopey turning ease ski's. I know we all must have modern equipement. I do believe that sloped skis were invented to slow us all down. Keep us turning and turning and turning.

In my youth I worked in Utah for a year(1986). Some of my buddies were way into telamarking. It just looked way to complicated for me. I may try it this season(work some different muscles). I read backcountry magazine and all the equipement they toute is of the newer versions of telemarking. I believe the bindings and boots can change from tele to downhill.

Now if only we would get some snow. Mt.Hood has still not recieved enough snow to make it worth it.

Tell me about it. Got rammed by a boarder helmet-first into the ribs. I was all alone - or so I thought - on a nice, 150'-wide slope in Whitefish, making predictable turns down the center when some fool kid rammed me and broke a rib. (Skied for the rest of the week, tho', but sneezes are something to be feared with a broke rib....) No "on your right" or any other, shouted warning, just sudden impact. He came off his board, but I retained my weapons - my trusty, decades old, Barrecrafter ski poles with A/P (carbide) tips. I threatened his life, his parents' lives and his pets' lives. If I had had my wits about me, I would have clipped the corner of his lift ticket, which is what we used to do with reckless skiers back when I was on the ski patrol.

Skiers are just as big of assholes, snowboarders just don't throw thier noses up when they run into someone. Everyone i'm on the mountain with is a boarder.

For every punk on a snowboard there is a snob on a set of skis.

you need to ski with more cool boarders then because some of the coolest started on skis and have the exact same ethics on the hill as the coolest skier's.

I am lucky, I happen to be pals with some really cool guys. some teli, some board and some ski. We all get along on the slopes and often there will be some of each in the same group.

just like jeeps tend to promote a different attitude on the 4x4 trail the mainstream boarders kinda seem to as well because the company they kept while learning. But to claim they all is that way is shortsighted and sad because it limits your ability to make cool new friends. I feel its best to be a good steward of the sport and take any chance you can to promote that. If I see someone not respecting somebody on the trail I say something. I also have followed some boarders and skiers down a mt and gave them a serious piece of my mind. There are bad apples in everything I just try and pick through and find the good ones.
