So if the "new" Dweb sucks...

The search button needs to grow exponentially in size.
I'm talking gi-nourmous - with a simple and ultra-simple option available.

An honest idea is the integration of google search within the site. It allows for more common language in searches and tends to find the text your looking for with more precision. ie. "What size tires can I fit on my 1997 Discovery?"

But wha-eva...I like the Dweb as it is.

Dude, there's nothing you can do about it. People are just getting dumber.

It's not just dweb. It's everywhere you go. Why should dweb be any different? People are changing. This site attracts people. This site gets infected with stupidity. It's simple mathematics.

"The years passed, mankind became stupider at a frightening rate. Some had high hopes the genetic engineering would correct this trend in evolution, but sadly the greatest minds and resources where focused on conquering hair loss and prolonging erections."

I think that part of that comes from the "sorta" new members. Those who have now been around long enough to have some knowledge and are eager to share but don't have the history to know what topics have been discussed multiple times. I myself probably fall into this catagory.

edit: I was refering to the people who reply to the "What tire will fit my truck" questions.

As a relative noob, I did the same, then I got treated like crap. Now I'm doing just fine in this little microcosm.

I don't mind seeing new rehashes of the same old questions, because search can be complicated to get right. Natural language processing is not an easy thing to implement. One bad term can really throw your results off.

Noobs are good for beating. It helps them acclimate. Sure, some people go over the line in terms of language, and I doubt they'd do it so much in person. And sometimes people have too thin skin. But if in the end, you're better off than you were when you came here, then it's all good. And collectively we have a better group.

I feel that I fall in to this catergory of "sorta new". I mean I search and search (sometimes to no avail) and I will gladly bring back an old thread to see about new info. A lot of the "older/wiser Dwebbers" have almost completely rebuilt their Rovers and gained experience. I am still in that process and I am still in the middle of my Rover learning curve. With relatively new ownership of my D1 and performing my own maintenance, upgrades, mods, etc... I am learning a bunch and trying to contribute as I can. When I can't contribute to the tech, then I rarely chime in or trash a thread with off-topic garbage. I try to be as relevant as possible.

I have taken a beating here and there but I still try to soak up as much free info as possible to make my Rover ownership that much more enjoyable.

Sometimes it's nice to get the newb question that reminds me that is something I should look at more closely. (Example: rear drive shaft u-joints. I knew I needed to replace them after my oil change yesterday. So I searched, found out what I need and will be tackling that maintenace soon). Other times it's just obnoxious with all the similar posts right after one another... but then you can count on a Dweb Hall-Monitor to kick the shit out of the little newbs and that topic will fall to the bottom pretty quickly.

As said above... it's not the best, but it's pretty damn good. If you can't take the heat, get out of the fucking kitchen you barfwad newbie cocksmokers!

.

see this is the exact problem...people are just so fast to post that they havent searched

sometimes you need to search with your eyes as well as with your fingers.

I dunno, I kind of enjoy the beatings. Reminds me of home.

Speaking of eyes and the thread posted as an example - paragraphs are your friend! Most of the time when I see endless unbroken text I stop reading.

Now those people need a good Discoweb beating. :D

Here's one for you, speaking of mathematics. From the Census Bureau. The average number of children declines with incresed levels of education.

Not a high school graduate: 2.5
High school graduate: 1.9
College, no degree: 1.8
Associate degree: 1.9
Bachelor's degree: 1.7
Graduate/professional: 1.6

So in essence, one could say that DWEB is one microscopic example of this shift.

my take on it - same shit, different people.

Jaime

That's an interesting take.... so... things haven't changed at all? I am now just noticing how moronic all lot of people here are?

I guess the possitive implication is that I am getting smarter? Hmmmm... I'm not so sure about that.

The Lou!
I don't think "the new" Dweb sucks at all. It's just a cycle. The newbs with balls will eventually become long time residents here, some will even become our cyberfriends. The weak will cry and pout and run to LRO to seek a kindler gentler forum and all be well with our world again. I damn sure don't plan on letting the tards run me outta my home. You bitches are stuck with me!
