So the thread about summit racing selling the Superwinches for cheap made me think about seeing Superwinches in action. Overall, they seem to suck badly. Either solenoids or motors dying. Not just on rovers either, jeeps as well.

Am I just the Dark Prince of superwinches or do they genuinely suck?

We have about 18 of them on various trucks. I've been involved with our company for about 3 years. Bruce has been running Superwinches for about 10 years or so. This year we had the most failures to date with three in the past 18 months.

The SW 12K on my old DI fried. Another one (I think an EP9) fried as well.

Clearly we use our winches more than any recreational user typically will. We submerge them in water for extended periods of time, shock load the lines at times (students aren't always perfect) and use them day after day while training.

Here at the VA course we had one fail during our last training. Appears as though we got water in the motor. Was a relatively new winch. The motors are designed to be water tight.

We run EP9s on just about every truck.

The fit and finish of them has been pretty good overall with the exception of a few winches having rusty cross bars within a year.

We used cheap 8K Warns at a previous school for years with few issues. Most of the time if was abuse from students not paying attention to cable being fed on the drum evenly and busting the cross bars.

Ask 10 different people and you'll likely get 10 different answers.

But no they don't suck.

none of your fucking business
My superwinch works great. I've done a few serious pulls on it but, not over and over and over and over. Im sure I've never overheated it.

I love mine and for the price, it can't be beat.

Ah, I see.

Well keep me away from the front of ya'lls truck because my presence will cause the bolts to fall out, your motor to rust shut and your cable to catch fire because apparently I have that influence.

No problems except the cross bar likes to rust as soon as it comes out of the box. Paint it black and forget it.

Superwinch started getting their products made in China last year and the prices came down with that. Not sure if it is related or not.

Warn makes a good winch. It's not about bragging rights, it's about wanting a Warn for any reason whatsoever.

It's a fucking winch, man. It's not a moon lander.

Cheers,
