OMG, this squealing is going to wake up the whole neighborhood. Holy shit. New-ish belt already on there. I've always wondered about the belt though. It's pretty tight on there. I've gone through a couple in a row and I got the last one at the dealership. Could it be TOO tight? Could it be my ace pump or is it more pulley related you think? I'd take an audio clip of it, but it's so annoying I wouldn't want to subject anyone to it! It's worse than the universal alarm clock sound! I guess I need to get a scope and look/listen a little closer. [Sigh] The work never ends.

It's really loud when it's cold and then it goes away after I drive on it for a while.

Idler bearing? You have a d-II right.

I know my idler/tensioner bearing was bad. 11 bucks to replace from napa. Mines a d-1 though so I may be wasting your time.

How cold is it up there now. And warning I may be coming through in August on my way to the Kasilof river

I've recently begun to see a bunch of seized up idlers causing this and water pump wear.

There is a generic idler pulley replacement, but I don't have the part number handy. The plastic ones on the DIIs are JUNK!

X2 - I replaced 2 idler pulleys and one tensioner pulley on my old D2. Seems like once one starts to go the others follow suit in short order.

I may just replace the idler pulley's and tensioner pulley for good measure. Is there a metal one that can replace the plastic one? I guess that's what you're referencing. I will do a search on here and see if I can't find it.

It sounds like it's coming from the front (top) of the motor on the driver's side. Ah, hell, I need a friggin scope.

EDIT:

From Search of Tech Threads:
*Idler pulley is 80mm on drivers side and 70mm on passenger.
*Tensioner pulley 89054 $17.77 at Advance auto (not sure if it's plastic or metal)

so that tensioner can be found at autozone? i sure hope so. i'm gonna go ahead and replace all three, despite the fact that i already replaced the idler puley on the drivers side. i'll let you know how it goes. i should do it next week during the break.

All 3 of mine felt like a cheeze grater when spun by hand. If you loosen the belt and spin them by hand if it's bad I'd assume you'll feel it.

What about Rock Auto?

I found:

A tensioner pulley for $11.68 (Dayco Part # 89054); and

The tensioner assembly with pulley for $51.79 (Dayco Part #89287)

*There were also a few other options for the tensioner assembly, one with a steel pulley. I didn't see the idler pulleys though.

Can someone else take a look at the Rock Auto parts and tell me if that looks right?

I have a D1, so can't help with the part #s.
However, I am on my 3rd Serp-belt and both times when I put my new belt on, my bearing in the pulley started to scream. $10 bearing at NAPA, all better each time.
