I was reading the RAVE section on Steering Box Adjustments. It seems fairly simple, but I alas am even simpler.

Could someone please re-word the instructions for me since I am an idiot?

I have a 96 SD. Steering feels loose (lots of play) and seems to drive straight at about 1 or 2 O'clock.

Thanks in advance,

1: Adjust cross tube so that steering wheel is horizontal on forward travel.

2: Loosen locknut on box, adjust 1/2 turn at a time until steering gets tight-be careful, it can become tight and dangerous VERY quickly.

3:Back off adjuster 1/4 turn. tighten locknut.

Now, that said, when was the last time you replaced tie rod ends? How about set swivel preload? Your truck has 142K miles by your own admission. It needs both of the above! Probably "needs" more, but one step at a time!

PT,
you are absolutely right. It needs alot. I just gotta hold of this thing a couple of months ago, and I am slowly working through it. This adjustment seems quick, easy, cheap and will hopefully make it much safer.
thanks very much,
