I stripped out the splines on the steering ujoint again on my disco and have come to the conclusion that these things are not up to the task of rock crawling.

I ran across a gray market RRC in the junkyard once and noticed it had a steel ujoint.

Does anyone know if these interchange with the aluminum ones, or what models got them?

thanks, so its not just a black market thing, RRC's have them to? I see tons of RRCs at the junkyard, but never checked them out other than the oddball gray market one that I'm still pissed at myself that I didn't buy the transmission and transfercase out of.

well I should have done this last year, instead I put another disco ujoint on there and it stripped again.

PT- you say you have a 95 disco shaft on the RR, are the disco and RR shaft different, or is it just the ujoint/coupler that is different?

I was at the dealer looking for that UJ while I was replacing the steering box, and was told the whole steering shaft has been superceeded and it no longer has that joint in it. It looked like a better design. It was some bucks though.

cheers

Ordered the 24.95 defender ujoint instead. Hope it fits.
