Oh, snap! I see I've paid $25 to join Texas Rovers when I registered for SCARR - and that is the lower out of state rate.
John, I'm not sure I'm following your statement in context with the ongoing discussion. The option to join/renew is specifically preset to "not now" so its not seen as a trick to get people into joining. Being a club member is not a requirement to attend SCARR by Texas Rovers nor our insurance coverage for the event, however our insurance policies for the event do ask that we try to have as many people as possible pre-register in advance.

We offer renewing/joining the club in there because its the biggest time of the year for people to renew/join, most likely because of the cost savings incentives offered. If you feel that you have made a mistake in selecting the Join Now option, please dont hesitate to shoot Staci and I an email and we will get you in touch with the Club treasure who can help in this matter.

An in-state member costs $15 more than an out-of-state member. How would you feel if ROAV charged you $15 more than me (from Maryland) for membership?
This really depends on what ones club offers them. If its something like just a t-shirt and a monthly email magazine, then its not a very fair pricing structure. However, in Texas Rovers case, a number of TX vendors offer discounts to club members though out the year, as well as a standing discounts on parts and labor at a few of the TX LR Dealerships, incentives for local events, etc. However, some of these benefits, out of state members cant take advantage of, simply because of their geographic locations, so they are offered the membership at a lower price since they cant make use of the things TX residents can take advantage of.

Chris,

I was well aware that I wasn't required to become a member and it wasn't a mistake. My apologies if I was sounding critical of TR. I posted this later in the thread:

Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing TR and/or SCARR. I'm looking forward to attending (and I'm still hoping to ride with you). The registration/membership fees are a small portion of my total cost to attend. Different clubs structure fees differently for different reasons. The difference in cost is immaterial to me.

If it keeps snowing here in Maryland, I may be upgrading to the in-state membership.

This moonshine is dangerous. If there was ever a "pink panty remover", this is it. I'm bringing a portable stripper pole to SCARR this year. We're going to need it.

As for Eric May, he's only part of the problem. Sad part is he cannot understand that. Poor guy, kindda feel sorry for him.

I wonder if SCARR will have staff coffee and wrist bands?
I hope TR selects socially responsible vendors. It would be disappointing to hear something like their T-shirts are produced in a sweatshop in Appalachia.

I seem to remember that the very first year we joined Roav we got a new members packet' of some sort with sitckers and a directory of members (I still have it) along wi'th other information about the club and MAR. Every year after that we got nothing for being members, not even a discount to attend the event. We also often didn't even get our registration materials before we got to the event. So, joining was for no real reason.
