This is a thread that newbies should really take to heart

Go back and look at that pic of brians truck, the lift actually adds almost no lift at all because the lift height is negated by the weight of the sliders, bumpers and winch.

the only reason for the lift is to carry the weight not raise the truck. This is the best set up for most people IMHO and one of the best ways to run a D1. This yeilds a truck that will go lots of places and will also not tear its self apart.

If you are new to disco's this is about the best way I can think of to start out and learn to off road. You dont need lockers you dont need HD rear shafts or hd Cv's. This simple set up will protect the body and allow you to learn to drive the truck and learn the dynamics of weight transfer and traction.

Almost every newbie that comes on wants to know "what first" that pic is a damn good example of where to go first. there is always time to go with ARB's and all the rest of the candy, but starting low ,safe and simple will actually be alot more fun.

I'm not new to offroading, shit fire guys i'm just want to put some rough tires on a hunting truck. I never thought it would get all the way down to you guys telling me what i'm doing is wrong, the spacers are not wrong for me, maybe you and your moab trips but not me. All i want is a good looking bunting truck thats reliable. if i want to go big places i would take my other toy http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f311/BT93/003-1.jpg

Wow - what an unsafe-too-tall second truck you have! Just kidding of course, enjoy your Rover, but it is true that the stock springs are not the best match for the 2" spacers, might want to look at upgrading to a stiffer spring in the future :D

Shut the fuck up you retard.

People have offered you the advice. If you choose to ignore it, fine. But, they've told you not to run a stock spring with those cheapfuck spacers. But being the idiot you are, you will never understand why they are telling you this.

The bronco pic is priceless. What a piece of shit. I can now only picture you as a 300lb blond lesbian who wears Guns and Roses t-shirts with the sleeves cut out and smokes Parliaments like a Vietnam war vet. I bet you have a jean jacket, too.

Lets see some pictures of that hunk of shit "going big places". I'm betting you don't have any. Yet, I bet you could show up a whole roll of film of that monstrosity sitting in front of the petting zoo or Tasty Freeze.

....send the spacers back. You're only going to fuck shit up with the set-up you're running.

A little harsh DC but true enough that some people other than you here are reading this for the advice which is all good so far. Spacers are designed for a much better than stock spring RTEs site tells you flat out not to run spacers with stock springs.

And the bronco is pretty..........

much a poser!!

Musky, I'd love to see the amount of trimming needed to run 235/85s on stock springs. :) That's why I asked if he was going to wheel it. I'm running 762s with a 1.5 inch spacer in the rear, pushed the fender out an inch or so, trimmed the fender at least 2 inches from the corner and I still am close to touching.

So by my calculations, a stock disco with 235/85s would need at least 6 inches of trimming.

Interesting, Mike. I run a 2" spring on my black D1 and 235/85's. I have done no cutting and I have no rubbing. No spacers, either.

....what rear links do you have?

Wow, Listen man I'm not gonna try to be a e-bully, if thats what you're pushin me for, but you really have to chill about about this whole thing. I'm not trying to be a dick I just wasn't told until after the fact that you couldn't run these spacers safely without stiffer springs. So I will run the spacers after I get the OME springs. i do not think you guys are a bunch of idiot's and I am doing as instructed on the spacers. What the hell else do you guys want from me? Ohhh yeah it's not guns and roses, it's tenatious D and not parliments mostly camels & lucky strikes.

I'm no expert but I also put the matching OME dampers on at the same time so the travel distance would be matching and the other shocks were old anyway.

Dan, I have some prototype links made by a cranky former moderator of Discoweb. They are offset by about 2 inches or so. The links are still pointing slightly down with respect to the mounts.

Also, why the quest for 235/85? I've enjoyed the 245/75 x16 in both BFG AT and BFG MT for years which probably would have fit fine with stock springs but I went with medium duty springs and bilstien shocks which resulted in a very small lift bump of maybe 1" or so mainly to have better load hauling and bit more clearance for snow and trails.

You can get some great information at www.expeditionexchange.com about shocks, springs, everything really. GREAT website and products. As stated, lots of folks sell them, but EE will take the time to help you get what's best for YOUR needs, not just sell you something you have to return. Check the site and give them a buzz!

I already own a brand new set of the Federal Couragia MT's in a 238/85-16. WOW I really am thinking of dumping this project I never thought a guy would have to work this hard to run a freakin 31.5" tall tire, I mean come on it's not even big. I've never owned a vehicle that I couldn't put 35's on with some minor air dam trimming and a leveling kit. This whole thing is just frustrating. All the leaks/minor problems and retarted amounts of trimming just to run a small tire.

we will give you a break...but do yourself a favor and search and read.

this site/community has a huge amount of knowledge to share and most of us have come from other 4wd's and ended up with rovers because of the advantages they have over other trucks and the quality of components they are built from.

come here and act like you know it all and cant learn anything and you will be flamed like you deserve. Come here and ask well thought out questions after searching first and you will learn fast and your learning curve will be much shorter.

great people here

this thread has caused me to look closer at the suspension of my truck. And I may get flamed but wtf. I bought this truck as is. It has OME 751 springs on the front and 764s on the back. The back seems squishy so I already ordered the 762s on the recomendation of Atlantic British. Here is the dumb question. Thee are these silver hockey puck looking things on the botom of the springs mounts. I assume that these are spacers right? Can I assume that they are offering an extra 1.5 of lift or so?. If I pull them out, whith the springs that I have what kind of lift over stock can I expect. Also I have 265/75s on the truck. Will they still fit if I pull out the spacers? This truck is not going to be a huge off road truck but does do some. And if it goes down a little my 5' tall wife will be able to get in easier. Your thouhts?
