I'm betting on the BW.
I bought my LWB in this condition...wouldn't move under its own power, just made grinding noises from the tcase.
noee helped me swap in a LT230 and It's been moving on its own power for 2 years now...

Quick update for anyone interested.

I was able to speak to Bill about an hour prior to him closing his shop on Saturday. Fortunately, t-case grenaded right up the road from his shop. Should get the diagnosis tomorrow due to holiday weekend.

I appreciate everyone's help and will let you know what the issue was once he separates the case from the transmission.

here is the update from our trials in santa fe.. the t case in the 92 had 4 major issue's. first and foremost shreded all teeth on shaft. second the chain didnt snap but it was so stretched from 200 plus thousand miles of use it was slapping the top of t-case. only about an 1/8 of a inch remained in t-case wall. third had a crack at top of case and bottom. and lastly the viscous was dry as a bone. thankfully the shaft went first. overall trip was great. enjoyed colorado's beauty. the 92 rrc is now rockin a lt230. all i have to do now is shortin my tom woods double double cardin. its about an inch and a half to long now.. also thanks for any and all support. Bill really nows his stuff
