Folks, I have a friend at work who is looking at buying a '95 Disco from the dealer. He's asking me if it's a good idea. Here's the run-down...

- One owner (some lady)
- Regular dealer service, he's checked the stamps in the book etc.
- Carfax is clean
- 83k miles
- don't think it's ever been off-road
- No body damage
- Dealer trade-in for an LR3
- Some minor oil drippage (which I told him is not unusual)
- $7,900 (seems kinda high?)

Is there anything helpful I can relay to him about looking at this truck? Anything problematic with the '95's etc? anything to watch out for on these?

Mine is a '99 SII so I could not speak to him from any personal experience. Please let me know. Thanks!

Other than a clogged cat, my has been just basic maintenence since I got it 18 months ago. I didn't get any records, but I paid $4500 with 98k from a wholesale dealer. I recently drove it to TX and back, averaged 15.2 mpg over 4000 miles with a roof rack no less.

Price seems high, paid $3000 for my 95 in SoCal in May of this year, no body damage, clean interior no tears, needed a battery, plug wires and rear brakes.

My first 95 was a basket case at $2,700 bucks, but I still loved it, until i used it deer hunting.:ack: I paid (a little too much BTW) $5,300 for my current 95, however this one was sweet at about 75,000 miles. I figure it was worth every penny, 99% can't believe its a 12 year old vehicle. anything less than 100K on a truck that old is good from a mileage standpoint, but check out ALL the hoses, wires, etc for cracking. Check ALL fluids as well, a lot of folks here will say that Disco's don't like setting around too long without a good beating every once in awhile....FWIW

I just picked up a 95 disco for $1,200. It was filthy! It was a company car and they used it for hauling engine parts around. 104,000 miles on it. I was able to drive it from Ft Lauderdale to Tampa with only one stop for repair. The bushings were gone on the steering dampner and for those that have never expirienced what it feels like to hit a bump at 70mph with bad bushings I can tell you it feels like the front end is falling apart. Stopped at a friends house on the way, put on new bushing and drove 80mph all they way from Naples.
The inside cleaned up very nice with alot of degreaser and the outside looks good ecept for some minor rust around the alpine windows.
if he dosn't mind a little elbow greese then he should be able to find a less expensive Disco that just need a little TLC.

WAY high - should be about 1/2 that. No matter what you spend, have a coupla grand in yer back pocket, you'll need it soon enough. I'd pay 1/2 or walk - lots more out there to buy...

Run dealer edmunds, take that in and see if they will move. If not, walk, have them be patient, watch here, ebay and craigslist.

Saw 6-12 97-99s with 75-90k in good shape go for less.

Just bought a my 95 disco off craigslist for $1500 a week ago, 227K. Was in good shape inside and out but needs some work, has a exhaust leak, needs new muffler, needs sunroof guides, has a bad connection somewhere in the starter circuit, and needs 2 tires. Anything over $5K sounds way high, it''l still have most of the same electrical and age related problems the rest of us will have, even if it is low miles for a 95.
