My 04DII is stuck in superlock. FOB does not work and door lock just spins. Dealer wants to issue new FOB and program it and replace door lock. Do I need to do both or can I just replace key FOB. The unlock function on the FOB should unlock the door. Am I correct or do I need to both.

BTW quoted $1000 to do both. Trying to avoid having to pay a grand for this.

Thanks....

When I bought a new fob the dealership charged me just under one hour of labor to reprogram it. That was a D1, however, and it wasn't in superlock.

Sounds like your door handle is broken. Even if in superlock the door handle would open the door with a key. All superlock does is make the inside door latches not work so if someone broke the window they would need to crawl through the window to get inside.
If it were my truck I'd break the outside door handle off and turn the latch with a screwdriver. Although it would need to be done with care and possibly a good cutoff wheel so as not to damage your door or latch parts.

The outside handle won't open it iirc. We always had to bust the latch open from down the window hole with a screwdriver.

As soon as you get it open have super lock turned off.

The rear tail door window is easiest as it uses a gasket.

What has no doubt happened is the cruciform piece of pot metal that goes from the key to the door lock actuator has broken, thus the key just spins. Given this being most likely, once the vehicle is opened by turning the lock, the Superlock activation should deactivate because you are using the key (or the alarm thinks so) and you should be able to enter and start the truck.

I suspect you could drill out the key cylinder to access the door lock actuator as the mating part of the actuator is directly in line with the key hole. Thank you John for your suggestion as somehow, the idea had eluded me but when you suggested it, it became immediately obvious you have the right idea here. GENIUS!!!

Definitely have the Superlock function deactivated, I suggest everyone do so as the risk to the truck from a mal-functioning alarm is far worse than the risk of theft.

As for breaking a window, removing the rear door glass can be a challenge without breaking the glass:D.

I find the left front door glass to be the easiest and least expensive to replace.

When breaking glass out, take a trash bag, place a hammer inside the trash bag, tape the bag to the window frame and use your trusty shop-vac to suck the bag into the hose, gran the hammer and break the glass. Most (note, most) of the glass will be sucked into the shop-vac rather than making a mess and leaving you with a lifetime worth of tiny bits of glass in the cabin.

The reason it always makes sense to me to choose the drivers door window is your going into that door to fix the lock. I would go into the vendor section and ask about a used lock set. You just need the drivers door and the ign. Lock. Should be able to get that shit for less that $200. Then do it yourself. Same guy should be able to sell you the door glass. Too much used stuff available for these trucks to go out and get new parts.

Not to mention, availability is less and less.
