the big saginaw has a higher volume flow so you dont have to rev it real high to maintain pressure. only really an issue when big tires are stuck between a rock or a downtown curb. it also gets rid of that remote reservoir thats in the way of battery #2 and usually has at least 1 leaking hose

the s10 pump is dumb, but only a few years ago a rebuilt zf pump was $300 so it had its time

As an unrepentant Discoweb Cheap Fuck (TM), I heartily endorse this option. It's not like you're installing some heavy duty aftermarket accessory that needs modifications to fit, this job is a simple remove and replace. Hell, I've done it on my truck with a genuine pump and even I couldn't screw it up. This is one of those situations where there is nothing to be gained from installing a non-genuine part. Just buy PT's, install and forget about it.
One word of caution - don't be like me, and use a filter in one of the lines. Otherwise you may ruin the replacement pump with bits and pieces of the old one suspended in the p/s fluid.
