Suspension evaluation

When I bought my truck, it had already been lifted. The PO said he used Rovertyme 2" lift springs. Is there a way to verify part #'s? Is it stamped on the spring? I've found so much dumb shit done to this truck that I've had to correct, it wouldn't surprise me if these springs are not what he said they are. The lower bolt for the right rear shock (OME Nitro Chargers) disappeared while I was wheeling it the other day. Shame on me for assuming whoever installed them torqued that damn bolt in.

I'm just trying to get a clear picture of where the suspension on this truck is before I move forward, as I plan to eventually up the lift to 3", slide some bigger tires underneath, and then get some Ashcrofts.

The number is printed on the springs

Printed, or stamped? I'll have to get them cleaned up and take a good look when I get home. Hopefully it's the latter, because these things are several years old. Unless the ink from the printing was especially durable, it may be long gone.

EDIT: By "stamped", I mean etched or embossed into the metal. Poor choice of words on my part.

Printed in white on all the ones I have seen. It is pretty durable if your springs have the original powder coating on them. What color are they?

Black, I'm pretty sure. I'll need to scrub the patina of mud off of them to know for sure, I'll update in a little while. I'm half a mind to take them out and measure them to see if they've compressed/sagged over time.

I could be wrong because I have been out of the Rover loop for a while but newer RTE springs were gray and older (we're talking in the beginning of Rovertym) RTE springs were black, I only know because I had a pair of the original 5" and they were black but my newer 3" springs now are gray.

Dont take them out to measure them, just measure them perch to perch and look up suspension comparisons.

I have the old 2" RTEs and they had plastic stickers/tags wrapped on them. I don't remember the colors (one set was green IIRC) or to which springs they correspond.

Okay, so after some maneuvering of the springs, I found the model #. The fronts are RR4-1RTE and the rears are RR1-2RTE. I didn't turn anything up with this model numbers on a search, anyone know what they are? They're powder coated black, meaning old.

RR4-1 are HD front 1" lift (which is 2" on a DII). RR1-2 are HD rear 2" lift. But I've never seen them actually say RTE after the part number. They have been grey for at least the past 10 years. Unless they made some black ones while they where having issues with finding a new manufacturer.

Did Rovertym become RTE? I tried searching those model #'s on RTE's site, came up with nothing

They have not published the numbers in a long time. But yes RoverTym is RTE. It used to be an abbreviation for RoverTym Engineering. But when LRNA started suing everyone with Rover in the name they changed it to RTE Fab.

There's no telling where they came from. The situation in which I came by the car was an unusual one, so I didn't have the opportunity to ask as many questions of the owner as I would have liked. I think he's the one who put the lift on, and it would have been 5 years ago or so. They're definitely black though. I'll just chalk it up to this truck's repertoire of mysteries.

Is the front set a 2" lift on a D2 simply bc they're HD? There's an ARB on the front, which I think may be taking away some from the amount of lift. I'm inclined to get 1" spacers to get closer to 3" all around. I don't think the OME Nitro Chargers are meant for that though, so I either need new shocks or lower shock mounts.

That makes sense, thanks. Preciate the deciphering of the model #s too.

No, the lift measurement (i.e. -#) is based on the amount of lift that is given on a DI/RRC. The DII has different spacing for the front spring perches so the 1" spring actually result in 2" of lift.

Ahh, gotcha! I have a lot to learn about suspension. It's by far the thing I'm least familiar with on my truck. I took some quick measurements, and it's sitting just over an inch higher in the rear, even though I have all my tools in the back. Should I try to get this level, or leave it be? I don't have a steel rear bumper yet, or sliders, so that weight will be added. My overall goal here it to improve my approach angle and get 33s to fit. Pretty sure my biggest obstacle in regards to approach angle is that stupid ARB, however.

Buy some rte 3" springs, a set of castor corrected radius arms and bfg km2's in 255/85/16. Thats the sweet spot.

I was trying to decide between those and the 285/75. 1" spacers would save my buying another set of springs, right? Also, are the radius arms needed at 3"? I thought that wasn't until you got to 4". I've been reading so much about this, I may have gotten that part confused.
