Swivel ball leak

I just noticed that the passenger side swivel ball is starting to leak bad enough to drip, so... I guess I have that project to look forward to. Are there any good online resources on rebuilding? It might be time to invest in the shop manuals..

Does it require any special tools? Is the best bet to get the full kit from DAP or somewhere, or is there a better way?

Thanks

No special tools you can pull down the hub or pull the entire swivel off with all the guts still inside to replace the seal. Or you cannot use the lr grease. I ran my swivels with the Lucas stabilizer for a while and that helped a lot. Its a breeze to rebuild the swivels just a little time consuming

I agree it's easier if you bust out the I believe 15s and pull out the whole assembly

Turn your wheel all the way to each side and check the ball for pitting. If it is pitting, replace it. If you change the seals, pits will ruin a new seal anyways.

Quick tip - use one of those ratcheting wrenches to remove all the bolts around the end of the axle behind the housing.

do the axle shafts come out with the entire assembly if you just unbolt it from the axle housing. seals been on my list a while too, except my balls are pitted.

Pits will ruin new seals. They ruined mine after a few months, and they leaked all over again.

Do the job once and do it right. If yours are pitted, just buy replacement assemblies with good swivel pins in them. Replace the ball seals, and you are good to go in the long run.
