Tappet (Lifter) Pre-load

How important is checking/setting tappet pre-load? I just installed a Crower 229 cam and set of Crower lifters into the 4.2, and I didn't want to button everything up before I addressed this. I found several threads about noisy tappets here on Dweb, but I couldn't find anything specifically addressing tappet pre-load. I'd read about it in several other places when researching swapping in a 4.6 into the Classic.

Should I be satisfied if my pushrods are all within spec? Is setting tappet pre-load only something MG guys who race their Rover V8's care about?

Here's a link to RPI's general information on Rover V8's. Scroll down to the tappet section:

Good to know. Thanks P.T.

I asked D&D this exact question he said not to worry. He did suggest cutting the valve guides down for the 230... I have a 229 in a 4.2 with crower lifters, its as quiet as a singer sewing machine.
