A few notes from my recent tdi swap that some of you might find helpful in case you're interested in doing it

- I'm assuming you're swapping to manual if you have an auto, because slush boxes suck. In this case, you will need a LHD R380 box(NAS/ROW are the same), RHD will have the steering column in the wrong spot, but can be modified to fit

- Neutral safety switch and cruise control safety switch won't allow you to start the thing, ground the 2nd relay under the passenger side footwell

- remove the fuel pump from the sender in the tank, and put straight rubber fuel hose from the metal down, do not reuse the factory plastic flex line, it restricts flow under load and will cause the truck to want to stall

- If you're using a 300 out of a later disco with EGR/EDC, there are a few differences in wiring. You will need to run a new tach wire from the alternator as the normal one goes through the EGR module. You will need to remove the tamper proof cover on the fuel cutoff solenoid(total PITA) and a couple other random things

-a few other things, just ask

I get anywhere from 22 to 30mpg out of my 200tdi, depends on where I'm driving. I'm turning a 1.2 hi-gear tcase with a lt77, I can do 75, but my truck likes 65 for some reason. I'd be curious as to what the EGT's are with a 300tdi in D1 at 75 especially if the fueling is turned up.

Speedo cable isn't hooked up yet, but was hitting 70 without issue. Wasn't really pushing it as it is fresh off the install, but I can't imagine complaining about lack of power. It certainly doesn't have much acceleration at 65, but it has no problem getting there.

I would budget $6000 for anyone looking to do the conversion with a lot of new parts. You could easily do it for much less or much more.

A lot of 300 Defender owners complain about lack of heat, that must be a core/blower issue as this thing puts out plenty of heat.

My LWB Tdi cranks out the heat, too.
Its been cold as shit here last week so we took it out Sat night and my wife said to turn down the heat because she was burning up!

Do you have a EGT gauge on it? If not, put one on especially when you turn the fueling up. (which you will do, you just don't know it yet). I'll be curious what you think after you load down the truck with shit...

Your price seems a little low, considering 300tdi's are going for 4 to 5k for those without hookups, and that's without a drivetrain. I'd plan on rebuilding the motor before installing it only because you never know what you are actually going to get in a used motor.

The engines make heat, but in a defender there are just too many places for the cold air to get in and for the heat to escape before warming up cabin...

Not yet, I plan on putting one in when I replace the dash with a nicer one.

The prices are all over the place, really. There is a lot of junk out there for sure, and a lot of clean stuff. My price is based off of where I got it and the very little cost of getting it here.

Did you have any trouble with getting the engine in the country ? Where did you buy the thing and how did you arrange the shipping ?

Everything was purchased from the company I work for, RN.

Well technically last year was much better for the acorns to USD conversion, so it was a great year to be a canadian buying a Tdi

But yes, that's how much they command, often more.

As another data point, you're looking at about $15K if you want a remanufactured three hundy block with all-new ancillaries.
