I'm always cold so I have a mr buddy portable heater. It'll eat a 1lb canister as noted above, but I get around 8 hours on low. I have the adapter and 10lb tank. I put it near the cyclone vents on my columbia tent and don't have a problem with it shutting down. (at 8k ft in the center of another tent it kept shutting down). I also use a fleece blanket on my cot under the sleeping bag to retain heat.

electric heater will very likely kill a battery in less than 1 night. from what i have heard that zodi is the way to go if you do not trust the other gas one inside your tent. but again I would be cautious, even of the fan overnight. Likely you'll have to turn it on and off throughotu the night.

I have always used something like these in large canvas tents.

the one i had was capable of burning coal and would last most of the night if you stoked it then added coal. a real pain though if you got a clogged arrester. coal smoke is really bad.

Want to be warm? No generator? You gotta burn something. Gas, wood, coal, whatever.

Pilot Light Extinguished

Simply put, if the pilot light gets extinguished for any reason, the heater shuts itself off.
Low-Oxygen Sensor

The built-in “Low-Oxygen Sensor” safety feature alone makes the Mr Heater Buddy heater the safest option currently on the market for anyone intending to use their portable heater in small enclosed spaces like camping tents, hunting shelters, fishing shelters, camper shells and tent trailers. With this feature, if the heater detects a decrease in oxygen levels it will simply turn itself off before it gets to a dangerous level for humans.

We are taking our 15 month old camping next week.

I should have said that the plan is to take her camping next week. We will see how it goes.

Still, it is going to be 40 at night... and she is less than half the age of your kid so the sleeping bag isn't a possibility.

Honda EU, an electric blanket and a ceramic heater

Boom. Done. I have even run a 100' of extension cord from an RV hookup site if you're in a campground. I slept in boxers til 10am at sae one year while everyone else froze their ass off.

Those back heating pads like hot hands but for you body last a long time as someone mentioned above. I occasionally use them while hunting. I hate cold weather.

OK mr heater buddy puts out more heat than I was led to believe. After seeing it in action, I don't know how it could create much more CO than a bic lighter. I didn't run it all night because it was too hot with the 3 of us in a 7x10 tent.

I use a coleman heater like this: http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Perfe...qid=1351000006&sr=1-1&keywords=coleman+heater

I usually turn it on while getting ready for bed, let it heat up the tent a bit, and turn it off when I go to bed.. a good sleeping bag goes a long way.. then I'll turn it on if I gotta leave the tent to go to the bathroom and also in the morning when I wake up... I haven't died yet.

You should see the setup Jarek uses... if he hasn't died from that, I feel pretty safe.

When I go winter camping we sleep in my pop up ice fishing house, there isn't a floor , I lay a space blanket on the snow followed by a thin closed cell foil backed foam, then a foam sleeping pad and bedding . Its not very large, but I usually have to partially unzip the door because it gets to hot inside with just body and solar heat.
