Anybody else amazed by the nastiness of some of these animal rights people over the gorilla killed at the zoo? Saw a post on Facebook that wished the mom and kid were shot instead. Some of you even "liked" it. Social media sure brings out the fringe...

It is sad that they had to put down the gorilla, but people don't realised that the situation is going to get worse if the gorilla is in any harm to the child. To be fair, I don't know how the parents can put the child in a situation that the kid can fall into the pit. And the zoo, ....I don't know is the fences "idiot proof" enough. With such people, the next generation is only able to see animals through pictures.

Anybody who has raised a kid knows how fast they get away from us at that age. Why would one think that the kid could even get into the area the boy made it into. That stuff happens way to fast. It ended the way it had to end. Should it have ended that way? No,in a perfect zoo the boy would not have made it into the area. In a perfect world we wouldn't have zoos.

Chris, has your kid ever snuck into a gorilla cage? No. Because you are a good parent. In a perfect world the gorillas family would be able to sue the mother and son.

I'm curious if she was on her cell phone.

I'm not a parent, but if my child fell in a gorilla pen, the first thing I would do is go after them. Maybe she tried to pray the gorilla away.

I don't know, but seeing that big boy drag that kid around like a stuffed animal was entertaining. Really shows how powerful they are. Wish no harm on the kid though, needed to be put down I suppose. Parents are to blame here.

Eyewitness saying the boy was taunting the mom that he was gonna climb in.

Supposedly the mom was hysterical and trying to get in with him.

Kids get into trouble amazingly fast. Still, the parent should have been paying better attention. And I can't believe no one else saw the kid hopping the fence and grabbed him. And its weird that thw kid was able to get in contact with the gorilla so quickly. No secondary barrier??
It sucks but it went down the way it had to.

Just visited the Asheboro, NC zoo a few weeks ago. You should see how easy it was to climb over the rail into the black bear exhibit. I was curious how many cell phones were down there as well.

Zoo's in general are just shitty places. I find them very odd. We take wild animals, put them in a box and ogle over them. For what? What is your kid learning? Or is it the experience? Same goes for that dump in Orlando - SeaWorld. Take the risk in the wild or Google that shit. Exploiting wild animals so your fat, annoying kid can rub his booger laden hands all over the glass isn't something I'm keen on I guess. Take them to a Wal Mart to see large animals in their native habitat.

I don't disagree with you, but from what I understand is that a lot of zoos take in animals that would otherwise die in nature. I'm not sure that a zoo is a better life for them, but I'm also not sure that its worse.

I'm willing to guess that life is far worse in a zoo. It's like life support. Do I want to live in a vegetative state or die in regards to "saving" wild animals and putting them in zoos.

Zoos are not designed to support conservation. They are not breeding animals in captivity and releasing them into the wild. At least not from what I've seen and not successfully.

They put on a facade based on education and the life of the animal is questionable. Those pacing tigers and elephants that freak the fuck out and kill people - that's not a life, that is a cruel treatment that we have no business "preserving" for the sake of being a spectacle.
